Ponying

Egads, what a flurry of new activity! Good to see new faces and refamiliarize myself with some old ones!

School is almost out for the semester and as such I will have much more time to spend with my favorite four-legged companions. We have a yearling filly who needs some more experience (see trailer loading post) and I was hoping to start ponying her, around the arena first, then out on the trail, and possibly around the neighborhood.

I have a couple horses to choose from, but, as you might see from the trailer pictures, she's not your typically sized yearling, starting to nose towards 15hh. I could use Kash, my Arab gelding, but he's a flat 15hh. He get along well with others, but I'm not sure if I'd want to haul around something that's nearly as tall as he is. There's Panda, who is a very stout 15hh, a Pinto Draft, but she's only five and still a bit green (hardly under saddle a year). There's Cinn's mother, Sunny, who is also young (coming six) and doesn't have a lot of trail experience, but she's larger (15.3hh) and tends to stop when she's nervous rather than moving her feet. The last choice is Ruby, our 16.3hh Belgian mare who is steady as a rock, but I'm not sure how much she'd like having the stinky little baby horse being hauled around next to her.

I'm definately leaning towards using the big lady.

But really, the meaty question I have for all of you is: Have you ponied before and if so, do you have any suggestions for me?
