Blind leading the blind

Jan 03, 2007 10:09

So, I'm here at home for the week, I get to see my horses and I can't even ride! I went out for a ride last night and while I was in the woods, I got smacked across the face with a tree branch.

I was on Sammy and he was being a bit impatient while riding through the woods. I wanted him to stop for a moment so I could decide where it would be best to go next (we don't really have trails in the woods, just places to squeeze through). He pushed his nose through some tree branches and they whiplashed and caught my right eye. Momentarily blinded, I got Sam to stand still until I could see again. When I got done with my ride and was back in the house, further examination led me to believe I had scratched the eye.

Fortunately, I have a horsie friend who is an optometrist. And she lives just down the road from here. I called her up to see if I could put some of Sam's meds in my eye. Incidentally, in a pinch, horsie gentamicin sulfate can go in a human eye. But she recommended that I come over instead as she had some better stuff for me. So, I went, we got to catch up, talk horses, and she patched up my eye. I went to see her at her office this morning. Eye is still not healed ... she took out the protective lense and, OMG it hurt! Apparently my pain tolerance is way to high though ... she wasn't sure why I wasn't in more pain last night. Anyway, new protective lense and she suggested not doing much in the barn so I don't irritate it more. I could ride, except that both horses are so muddy that I can't even get on them bareback unless I want to be a dirt-ridden as they are!

Oh well. I went to visit them this morning, gave apologetic cookies, and turned them out. At least I can look out the bedroom window and see them all day. Maybe I'll make Jeremy brush them later when he gets here. All will hopefully be well tomorrow so that I can ride then. Stupid trees.
