Can anyone name this bird?

Okay. I was outside this morning, attempting to take photographs of the butterflies that were fluttering around our lantana plants, when I caught sight of this unusual bird. I don't really know what type of bird it is and the only bird identification books I have aren't much help. I know it is a Sparrow of some type but am not completely sure. I was lucky enough to photograph it though. I also managed to photograph a Lesser Goldfinch-although it is a poor photograph.
