When you're by yourself and you're hearing some great guitar solo, do you pretend that you're playing it? Just get all intense and pretend that you're Slash? Come on, admit it. Of course, you don't do it in front of people, if you do they'll roll their eyes and go, "O-kaaaaaaaaay". You know, with that tone of late adolescent sarcasm. And you perfectly understand that reaction. You understand perfectly well what "adult" behavior constitutes of and you play it well when people are around. When you're alone, once again you're as "immature" as you were when you were eight and pretended your badminton racquet was an electric guitar.
Listen, I still do it. And I'm goddam glad I do. And I don't have any intention of actually learning to play a single goddam instrument. Why? Because I don't wanna spend time and money and intellectual effort on something just to become some mediocre musician, when I can put on an mp3, start plucking my imaginary guitar and pretend I'm the biggest Guitar God on the planet.
