Afraid to Fly

May 26, 2007 00:07

My oh my the week has flown. It has been a whirlwind of meetings and paperwork. I had to meet with all the guys I am working for, plus the meetings with the FAA. Well, for those of you who care, this is a taste of what I do at Mesaba (XJ): I open, edit, classify using over 1000 very technical aviation terms, print the report, make a summary, code it, deidentify it, add it to the weekly email log and add it to the agenda. This is just for ASAP. It’s a programme started by the FAA for crews to report issues (fuck ups) without the fear of punishment. I get reports from 4 groups of people: Pilots, dispatch, cabin crew and ground crew. The pilot meeting with the reps lasted over 5 hours. We read over the reports and decide what our recommendations are, usually just add to training manuals, POM.
Another part of my job is entering in the information from airport Audits. It’s a very long check list; think 8+ pages that need to be entered into Xcel, Access and then a form to email to the airport. Plus maintaining the paper file.
I also work with maintenance (Mx) audits from vendors that we outsource our operations to.
In addition to that, I order supplies, reserve meeting rooms and send out meeting reminders, distribute weekly data that I’m not sure what it really is. In a nutshell, that would be about it!!
I kinda slacked off this morning though. Shan, Ted and Jeff were all at their desks at their place of employment so I emailed with them. Then mom was online for some time. It was a nice change of pace. It’s kinda sad though; I am already coming in early and leaving late. I found out I get paid for Monday though and next Friday is my pay day. Today was my Ikea payday, next Friday is Mesaba, the Friday after that is my last Ikea paycheck then the next Friday is Mesaba. Boy, will that be nice!!
I am also looking for a date on the afternoon of June 2. We are having a celebratory event for the new CRJ900. It will include face painting, BBQ, minigolf, moon jump, ect plus the tour of the new plane.
I saw my new apartment yesterday. After a looong struggle to find a time when they will show up to sign my lease, I did it. The place sucks. Think old skool dorm. There is no carpet, the door has a clip on the outside for flyers, the shower is a stand up one with locker room tile, no ceiling lights, it’s made of cinderblocks, the elevator is very small and it has no AC. I guess the good things are there is a huge pantry that I am going to turn into a shoe closet! And it has a bedroom. But here is the kicker. Most of you should know my bad luck, it is apartment number 313. My black cat and I will be very fitting to my new number. Oh, I also don’t get cell reception with all the cinderblocks so I’ll have to invest in a land line.
Uncle Vanya is going ok. A very light tech show but heavy on analysis, aka, boring. Hopefully it will be a fast tech week. Its hard getting here at 6:30, leaving at 11, driving 30 minutes home, getting up at 6:15 and be at work 8-5.
