In lieu of Bible study last Thursday, we had a dinner night so that we could hang out and relax. We were discussing the election, and most people in the group were voicing their disappointment about McCain losing the election to Obama.

I find the statements "People should have to earn their health care." and (unless I'm reading it wrong) "Just tax the rich and move the wealth to the poor." to be somewhat surprising at a Bible study. Isn't helping the poor something we're supposed to do as Christians?

Good for being having the courage to be the opposing voice! Sometimes people get so stuck in the ideologies they were raised with, they can't think about the other side.

I was just thinking the same thing! Sounds to me like people have Christian and Conservative mixed up.

The frightening thing is that Washington State/Seattle is quite a liberal area...

My Bible study group wouldn't be a good sample of the population, since most of them are more conservative than the average Seattleite.

Seattle/western Washington is definitely one of the more liberal parts of the country; that said, it's still more conservative than Vancouver or Toronto.
