The stigma of being a UW math alumnus

I went to the Piroshky Piroshky bakery in Pike Place Market today while I was doing some shopping. I got my food, and the server tells me what my total is:

"That will be $4.92."

I handed her $10.17, and she looked really puzzled at the amount that I had given her. She entered my tender into the cash register, which showed that my change was $5.25. The expression on her face turned from confusion to understanding and she dispensed the change.

As I accepted the change, I said, "I thought I'd make it easy for you."

seattle, fun, day-to-day
