“Spike, could you come… upstairs with me for a little?” Buffy asked hesitantly.
Joyce had gone to bed, after informing her daughter that perhaps it was time Buffy’s friends went home for the night. Willow was reading over the words she’d have to get right in Latin.
“Don’t be gone long, you guys. We only have until sunrise tomorrow,” she said as the other two disappeared.
Buffy closed the door quietly and opened her mouth; suddenly unsure of anything she wanted to say to Spike.
“This is the very first time I’ve worked with one vampire, against another,” she said.
Seeing her hesitation, Spike reached out and touched her arm. “It’s gonna be alright, luv,” he said quietly.
Buffy smiled tremulously. “If this spell doesn’t work, I’m gonna have to kill Angelus tonight.”
Spike was about to ask what loss that would be to the world in the long run, then pulled on a little sensitivity from his human days. Buffy’s eyes searched for his again in terror. “What are we going to do about Drusilla?”
“Oh, bollocks!” Spike looked away. He hadn’t even thought of that.
Buffy nodded. She had all the answer she needed in that one word.
