I think for some reason it's typical for black culture not to be into swimming, or to be afraid of water. I'm sure most black parents, if they were not introduced to the water early on, will keep their kids away from it too. I don't think ability has anything to do with it. At all. My grandma can't swim, and she can't ride a bike either, but that's just because she's never been taught. I have a friend from West Africa. She can't swim. She grew up on the beach!! I always hear of from my black friends how thier parents kept them away from the water. That's all it is. I was thrown in a pool before I was even a year old. My mom was a surfer. That's why I know how to swim. But my lungs suck dude. I smoke!! Anyhow, most african-american culture began in the east coast and in the south. There are not a lot of beaches there! It's no wonder there is not a great affinity for water among the black populace of America!! (But what about my friend from Africa??)....

We should conduct a survey. Take 20 6 year old white kids and 20 6 year old black kids, all in the same weight range, who've never jumped into a swimming pool and give them all swimming lessons ( ... )
