Codpieces

"Well, we've started this new craze which is based around those old TV puppet shows...And we walk around all stiffly like we are being worked (badly) by puppeteers. At the moment we are concentrating on Marina Aquamarina. She was part of an underwater kingdom -- well, her dad was the king of it, but they were being threatened by these horrible fish people (no, they didn't wear codpieces but it would have been excellent if they had)."

Oh, the amusement continues.

In other news, I saw the new HP film last night. It was excellent, as I expected, but I have several complaints. (SPOILER -- proceed with caution)

Firstly, one of the pleasures of the third, fourth, and fifth books is that there's lots of character development of OTHER characters (ie: not Ron, Hermione, and Harry, who also get developed properly). Unfortuately, the moviemakers of HP:PoA seem to have thought that unnecessary. There's hardly any of Prof. McGonnagal, Snape, Trelawney (BRILLIANT performance by Emma Thompson), or Dumbledore.
Secondly, for some reason Harry never actually finds out who Padfoot, Prongs, et al. are! What's up with that? That's annoying.
Thirdly, they totally changed the appearance of the Patronus charm -- Harry's stag is supposed to come galloping up and do battle with the Dementors. What's this whole white-light-vanquishing nonsense? Hmph. That's the coolest thing about the the Patronus charm!
Fourthly, there wasn't nearly enough FrednGeorge screen time. I'm sure Oliver and James Phelps (or JOP, apparently) would quite agree.
Fifthly, where the hell was the Quidditch? It was like they put in the one rainy game because otherwise it would have been a sin, but they didn't really want to include it at all. Hmph. This, of course, meant less FrednGeorge, and absolutely zero appearance of Lee Jordan, whom I really like.

This all said, I still think this was easily the best of the three movies. I adored "Y Tu Mama Tambien", and was not disappointed by Cuaron's take on HP, different though it was. I especially liked the near-kiss between Sirius and Remus (don't act like you didn't see it -- denial, I tell you!) in the Shrieking Shack. Also, as I've said before, Ron and Draco (and of COURSE Hermione) are looking hotter and hotter, which is good. The biggest surprise for me was Neville, actually -- he looked great! [Also, he's basically cut out of the movie, which was annoying, as I really like him.] I'm sure I'll see it again, so perhaps I'll be able to say more about what I liked next time. I hope so.
