Part of the Crowd - [part nine]

I had to face it; I had a serious problem.
When I studied alone, I didn't score nearly as well on tests like I would have if Li Yin had been with me.
The last couple of weeks, we had been studying perfectly fine together...
But as the winter grew colder and colder, she finally caught a really bad cold.
Even though she called me and said the she would be fine, I couldn't help but worry. With the bad weather we were having, I prayed that she wouldn't get pneumonia, or something worse...
I couldn't concentrate for the whole week, and I barely managed to get a C on the test... -__-"

When Li Yin came back the next week, I recieved a harsh scolding.
"Han Geng! Another C?! What happened? You've been doing so well since we've been studying together..."
I sighed. "I know, but I couldn't focus...I was worried about you..." [Not to mention I was totally dependent on her...]
She flicked my forehead hard.
"Oww..." I rubbed the spot tenderly.
"I called you...I said I'd be fine...I told you not to worry about me..." She shook her head.
I stuck out my tongue. "Well I did anyway......oh yeah! Here's the notes we took last week. I figured you'd want to copy them..."
I handed her my notebook, and her face suddenly brightened.
"Thank you! That's so thoughtful!" She scanned over the pages, and then her smile faded.
"What?? What's wrong???"
"Your writing is so sloppy..." she said, frowning disapprovingly.
"WHAT?! No way!" I snatched the book back away from her, looking over the pages.

She began to laugh. "哥! Don't be so serious! I'm joking!"
I made a face. "You?? Joking??"
"What, I can't mess around with you for a change?"
"It's more fun when I do it..." I handed back the book, pouting.
"Anyways...now that I'm back, we're gonna work extra hart to get your grades back up, right?" she said, giving me a bright smile. It was more like a statement than a question.
"Ugh...if you say so..." Her word was basically the law...
"Good! Let's get started then?"
I nodded reluctantly, and we flipped our books open...

"Did I tell you?" I said, a bit randomly, as we finished up our study session.
Li Yin laughed a little. "Uh, no? Tell me what?"
"I'm thinking of applying for a job."
"真的?! That's good! Where?"
"Mm...you know the shopping center with the big grocery store? It's the Chinese restaurant...on the right side of the plaza? It's kind of big..."
"Ah, I think know which one you're talking about...good luck!"
"Thanks." I smiled.

I really wanted a job. I didn't really care what I did. I just wanted to help out Mrs. and Mr. Kim. I already owed them so much already.
Maybe this way I would stop being so dependent on everyone...
