kuroiusagi93 When they were in the seventh grade, they got together. It was on the first day they met, but they didn’t mind because they felt a strong attraction to each other. Their first date was a week later, in the movie theater.
“Ryo,” Ueda started, nervously clenching and unclenching the popcorn, “have you ever kissed anyone?”
Ryo’s blush went unseen by the darkness around them and his response was a simple, “No.”
There was a pause as Ueda gathered up courage and then turned to look at Ryo, his blush lightened by the bright scene in the movie, “Then kiss me.”
Like a real couple, they turned to look at each other and shared a sweet, first kiss.
When they were in the eighth grade, they went on a field trip with their class - a four-day trip to Fukuoka. The trip was unbearably hot and often they returned sticky and tired their hotel. But luckily, each hotel had a hot spring the boys could enjoy.
On the last day of the trip, Ryo and Ueda ended up going to the hot springs late at night. They had fallen asleep earlier and when they got to the hot spring, it was just the two of them.
In the middle of enjoying the spring, Ueda turned to Ryo with a soft smile on his face, “It feels nice, doesn’t it?”
Ryo immediately looked away from Ueda’s body, embarrassed. This was the first time he had truly seen his boyfriend naked. He agreed with a shaky, ‘Yeah.”
Ueda’s smile grew as he realized Ryo was embarrassed and he came closer, “Let’s try something interesting.”
Ryo felt him coming closer and he closed his eyes in a sign of retreat, “Try what?”
Then Ueda was all over him, planting kisses down his chest, sucking on his nipples, and palming Ryo’s small erection.
They touched each other for a while but didn’t go all the way. They stopped because they couldn’t decide who would be on top.
When they were in the ninth grade, they had the sex education talk. They were both extremely embarrassed, but when Ueda dragged Ryo to his room, they both felt ready.
“So…” started Ryo with a blush and he tried to look anywhere, at anything except for Ueda.
“Mmm,” mumbled Ueda, “Let’s start.” And he pushed Ryo down onto his bed.
Their first night together was clumsy and inexperienced but it was loving and sweet.
When they were in the tenth grade, they had their first serious argument. Ryo had been spending more time with the transfer student Yamapi than him.
Ueda felt angry and betrayed, but mostly sad. He loved Ryo and it hurt him to see Ryo with someone else.
He had just made up his mind to confront Ryo about it when Ryo approached him first.
“Remember,” started Ryo, his hands behind his back, “Our trip in Fukuoka?”
Ueda stared at him, confused, “Yeah?”
Ryo seemed a bit put off by Ueda’s response but he pressed on, “Well…” He brought his hands to the front to show Ueda a small blue velvet box, “remember that ring you wanted? I asked Pi to get it for me.”
Distractedly, Ueda remembered the ring he had really wanted and cried when he saw the price.
Silently, Ryo opened the box and revealed the same ring. He met Ueda’s eye and with nimble fingers and a soft smile, took the ring and slipped it onto Ueda’s left finger.
“I want to ask you to marry me, but that’s too sudden ne?” His voice was shaky but his smile was sincere, “So, I want to ask…will stay together with me forever?”
Ueda was speechless at first; he had so many thoughts going through his mind. But he already knew his answer.
He leaned forward onto Ryo, “I love you.” And he proceeded to kiss and pleasure Ryo.
When they went to college (they had decided to go to the same college to become salesmen) they shared a room together. Ueda had also been given a nickname, Princess, given after their friends had seen Ryo sweep him off his feet when he was feeling faint. Ueda hated the nickname but since Ryo seemed to enjoy it, he let it be.
They had many study dates in college, sometimes resulting in sex, but mostly not.
Ryo, his nose in a business textbook, “What’s number three, Princess?”
Princess inwardly bristled at the nickname but answered anyways, pushing his black-rimmed glasses upward tiredly, “Tell them today was a good day at work.”
There was silence as they continued onto the next problems and as Ryo contemplated Princess’s answer. And then Ryo mischievously turned to look up at Princess.
“Wrong, it’s ‘I love you.’”
And he leaned forward and planted a kiss on the confused princess.
When they got out of college, they decided to start a business together. The business didn’t start off too well and often they had to go to Ueda’s family for money.
One time, Ryo overheard Ueda’s family berating him. They wanted to know why their son had chosen such an unreliable person.
Ueda argued many responses but the parents wouldn’t take them and eventually his last one was that when you love someone, you overlook their flaws.
Though Ueda had said that, Ryo started working harder. He slept less hours and ate less and less.
One day, when he had pushed his body to the limit, Ryo ended up in a hospital. Ueda had been out at the time that Ryo had fainted and when he finally came back, he was informed that Ryo was in the hospital. He stood stock-still for a while with wide eyes before running back out of their house and into his car, speeding to go check up on Ryo. When he got there, Ryo was awake - staring out of the window, dazed.
When he heard the door open though, Ryo turned to look at him and the first word out of his mouth was, “Sorry.”
Ueda stared at him for a while, a faint feeling in his knees like it’ll collapse, but he rushed over shakily, “Don’t apologize. It should be me apologizing anyways. I should have noticed.”
Ryo smiled at Ueda’s antics, resting his hand lightly on Ueda’s shoulder, “Nah, I tried my best to not let you notice.”
Ueda’s smile was bittersweet and he gripped Ryo’s hand under the hospital blanket, “Why would you work so hard? We have enough money.”
Ryo refused to meet his eyes and Ueda could tell he was contemplating on whether or not telling him the real reason. Ueda gripped Ryo’s hand a bit tighter under the blanket and finally, after a while of staring out of the window sadly, Ryo answered. “I want your family to approve of me. I don’t want to be just someone who you love…I want to be someone you can be proud of claiming you love.” He paused and then gave a short, throaty chuckle, “Sorry, that didn’t make any sense, did it?”
He was cut off by a passionate kiss. When they broke apart, Ryo was faced with serious, sincere brown eyes and a soft, knowing smile. “My family are traditional, Ryo. They wanted me to grow up, marry a Japanese wife, run their company and make lots of money. I’m anything but that. They closed their eyes long enough - especially when I married you,” he paused and planted a light kiss on the tip of Ryo’s nose, “but I already proved I don’t care what they think, didn’t I?”
He kissed Ryo passionately and broke away after a while and noticing Ryo’s serious look he chuckled a bit, “Okay, I admit, I do want them to approve of me, but you are more important to me. So don’t ruin your health over this, okay?”
Ryo slowly smiled and he hugged Ueda tightly, “Okay.”
When they were middle-aged, the couple decided to adopt a son. Both had always wanted to raise children but since neither of them could actually birth a child they had decided to adopt. Plus, after both of their hard work, their business had bloomed successfully and now they had enough money for a son. They had deiced to adopt a teenager instead of a little boy. That way their son would be more accepting of his parent’s relationship.
They found their son in a boy called Jin (also called Bakanishi though they didn’t really want to ask why.)
He was rowdy and rude (he greeted them with a, ‘Wow, a gay couple? Haven’t seen that here before!’ which was quickly reprimanded by the boy next to him who was named Kame.)
They decided to adopt both of them because the duo (nicknamed Akame) couldn’t bear to separate.
After a month or so, their children settled into a daily routine with them. And everything was okay until one day…
Ryo was awakened by Ueda’s gentle pushing and urging, “Let’s go wake up the kids. They have to get ready for school soon.”
He sighed, but didn’t get up - he usually did but today he was unusually tired after last night (Ueda had continued for an extra hour after Ryo had asked him to stop, but that couldn’t be why) - “You do it.”
Out of the corner of his eye he saw Ueda pout but he still refused to give him any response. And then with a sigh, his ‘wife’ went to go wake up Akame.
He was drifting off to sleep when a shriek woke him up fully. And when he realized it was Ueda’s, he rushed to their children’s bedroom, barely dressed and limping badly. “Ueda, what’s wrong?”
The pale princess pointed into the bedroom, his finger shaking.
“Our children?” asked Ryo with panic written all over his face. He squinted into the dark bedroom but couldn’t see anything - surprised that Ueda could see something. He eventually rushed into the bedroom, turning on the lights and catching sense of what was happening.
Their children were sleeping naked together, and Jin’s cock was still partly inside of Kame.
Promptly, Ryo fainted.
When their children went to college, Ryo unexpectedly got cancer. The percentage that he would die next year was almost a hundred. Ueda was frightened and worried but Ryo faced death with a cherry smile. Their children were worried as well and visited the two of them countless times throughout the year.
Their college classmates came to visit as well. Koyama and Pi came to Ryo’s hospital room unexpectedly one day - the former crying and mumbling something about college-ai dying and the latter smiling uncomfortably and hugging Ryo tightly. Tegoshi and Massu came and lightened up the hospital room but later broke down and confessed they were scared too - they never wanted any of their college group to die. Shige came with a trail of screaming fangirls - he had become a famous idol nicknamed ‘Prince Charming.’
Ryo was always happy and cheerful when their friends came to visit but when they were gone and it was just him and Ueda, he let his fearful side show. Often he would wake up with nightmares, crying that he’ll never be able to hold Ueda or his children again.
“It’s going to be okay,” comforted Ueda, hugging the sobbing Ryo. The Osakan had had another nightmare and this time it had been of his own funeral.
“It’s not fair,” mumbled Ryo into Ueda’s chest, “I don’t want to leave you. You’re my everything.”
Ueda felt his heart ache painfully but he continued to assuage Ryo.
After a while, Ryo had stopped crying and was now just lying on Ueda’s lap. Ueda was just drifting off to sleep when Ryo spoke up, “What happens when someone dies?”
Ueda smiled. “They go to heaven,” he caressed Ryo’s cheek, “Just like you will.”
Ryo fell silent for a while. A pause. Then, “I want to become the sea,” he beamed a smile up at Ueda, “so then whenever you may be in the ocean, I’ll be able to embrace you.”
Ueda smiled sadly and hugged him, “Silly, you aren’t going to die soon.” His voice broke and his expression gave away what he really thought.
Ryo’s smile became bittersweet, “I know.”
When Ryo died, it was in the middle of Spring - the couple’s favorite season. They held the funeral on the beach - it had been Ryo’s wish to be cremated and blown into the sea wind.
Everyone who had ever mattered to Ryo was there - their children, college friends, and both of their families. They were all asked to give speeches at the funeral in which Ueda’s family finally admitted they were proud of Ryo and their children said there was no better dad (in which their college classmates interrupted laughing that Ueda was also a good dad) and quickly added ‘and Ueda too.’
Finally it was Ueda’s turn. He had decided to not write a speech beforehand or else it would seem too stiff. After all, this speech was of Ryo. When he grabbed the microphone from his kids and put it next to his mouth, he already knew what to say.
“Ryo…was a wonderful man. From the first time I met him, I was attached to him. It’s probably because of his admirable qualities but as I became closer to him and eventually married him I started noticing more of his own personality. When he noticed I liked something, he would try his hardest to go buy it for me,” he paused, feeling teary-eyed as he nervously touched the ring on his left finger, “When someone didn’t approve of him, he would strive to make sure that he would be someone important and worthy of admiration. He almost ruined his health over it to,” he gave a sad chuckle as he remembered that day, “When we adopted children,” he glanced at Akame noticing them staring intently at him and holding hands tightly as they tried not to cry, “we made sure they would be happy even if,” a cough, “they did slightly inappropriate things both of us didn’t approve of.” A smile from his children and knowing looks from their college classmate, “And when he was going to die, he still put up a cheerful front even though he was actually afraid in the inside.” His voice broke and he bit his lips to try and stop the tears from coming. “This,” he couldn’t help it, tears were now running down his cheeks, “was the man I loved from when I was young and I still love him now,” he looked over at the sea through the corner of his eye, “even if he had left this world.” He stepped down from the stage.
One year later, Ueda died facing the sea in a hospital bed.

In heaven, when the two caught sight of each other’s younger selves, Ryo laughed cheerfully and called, “Oekari!”
Ueda ran into his arms, then looked up and beamed at him, “Taidama.”

A/N: Oekari means welcome back and Taidama means I’m back.
