Jackson Funeral

So the city of Los Angeles has decided to flip the 1.4 million dollar bill for Michael Jackson's public memorial.

There seem to be a large number of people that want to defend this action, siting the millions that Jackson has donated to charity over the years, the rather important work he did in race relations back in the day (and yes, he actually did), not to mention the really cool music the guy made.

My problem with this is that the Jackson's are still mego-millionares.  I don't care if the guy did a lot of good in his day, I don't care if he donated a lot of money as well.  This just doesn't seem right to me.  The City of Los Angeles lacks a lot of infastructure, but they still spend retarded amounts of money on perks and unacceptably trivial projects like a public memorial for a pop singer.

I don't care how many lives the guy touched, his fucking family has enough to put on a public memorial if they want to.  This is the estate that bought and sold the rights to the Beatles songs after all.  I mean jesus fucking christ, this family is an entertainment dynasty that's loaded with land, music rights, and properties that most people in the world could only fucking dream of.

And the people of Los Angeles are paying about a million and a half for a public funeral.

Someone give me a reason that justifies this, really.  Cause every single one I try to come up with in my head falls desperately short.  It's almost like the Mayor of Los Angeles couldn't even pass a basic civics course in high school.  You don't cut from rape prevention programs and medical needs and then spend millions on a funeral.  Cause it kind of looks like you're steeling that money from the pockets of really important programs.

Man Los Angeles is corrupt.  I wonder who the Jacksons bribed to get this done.
