A new Baccano! novel titled 1710 Crack Flag will be released April 10, 2010. As noted by the title, it is set in 1710, and it features Huey, Elmer, and Monica. And some other alchemists. • Native speakers (assumably with a high school diploma minimum) can finish one book in around 2-4 hours; the 2 hour difference is generated based on the amount of funky vocabularies each title contains (there are slight discrepancies between difficulty levels)
• Non-native speakers with JLPT Level 1-2 can finish the book in about 1-2 days (roughly 6-10 hours total), assuming that dictionary usage is minimal. (Note: most kanji are not accompanied by furigana in novels, and these are really all the dictionary is for--the sentence structures themselves are pretty self-explanatory)
While it's true that some titles are more difficult than the others even within the same series, my impression was that 1705 was one of the less extensive books in Baccano!. I would assume 1710 to be around the same level, being a title from the same timeline with similar characters and whatnot ^^
