any borders or barnes & noble will have a great language section where you can learn language at your own pace. i've purchased a bunch of italian books and cds, as well as taking a class, and while the class was good, the books and cds were the best use of my money. spanish is pretty easy to learn, and you're not too old. go for it!
I know, I really want that Rosetta Stone book and CD combo program. I always gaze longingly at the ads in the Attache mag on US Air flights. Some of those programs are so pricey, though, and I'm afraid they won't work. I guess they might work if I really tried hard, but with so much studying to do already I'm not sure that I would be as dedicated as I need to be.
I'd have to agree with you. The other night, Matt saw the word "roja" ("red" in Spanish, pronounced "row-ha") and pronounced it "rowjay" or something. I was laughing at him.
ahhh espanol, Yo puedo hablar pero no me gusta (y tengo gramatica mala). Todos de los estudiantes de la universidad de michigan necesitan tomar cuatro semestres de un lengua...
I can only really talk in present tense though and did I mention I hate speaking spanish...
I wanted to add, speaking in spanish can come in handy at times you would not suspect, like when you are drunk in Munich and don't feel like talking to the men harrassing you in english...just pull out your spanish (which tends to flow under the influence of alcohol for some reason)...true story
ha! it's funny but i totally understood everything you said. i can still read it pretty well, write it and speak it a little, but i can't understand spanish-pseakers when they are really talking to me. they go so fast and i'm left with "uhhhh...hablo espanol un poco...uhhh...lo siento..."
