Angua came into the area O-Ren had set up for their afternoon tea, Blad Dog reluctantly following her, freshly scrubbed with a pink bow around his neck. Gavin was nowhere to be seen.
"Oh, this is lovely," she said as she took in the table of tea and flowers, greeting O-Ren with a smile. She motioned to the empty seat. "May I?"
"Hai~," she sang. "Yes, please do! I've prepared a more Japanese tea, if you don't mind." O-Ren beamed at the dog, pleased to see him so clean and pretty. "You look so lovely."
"Of course I don't, I am always open to trying more of the food and drink from your world," Angua says, sitting primly on the seat. The tea hasn't been served yet, so she does the honor, filling the cup in front of O-Ren and her own.
Black Dog ignores the compliment and goes to mope in a patch of nearby shade.
"Well, it's because I have an important question for you," O-Ren said. She ducked her head down, because her cheeks were getting warm and pink. "I-- it's a delicate matter, and I will understand if you refuse me this, but you are the only person I would dream of asking~..."
Angua looked away from the tea and instead to O-Ren, her expression openly curious. "Yes, dear? Please, don't be shy," she added, reaching out to reassuringly pat O-Ren's hand. "You can ask me anything."
"Well," O-Ren began, "you are, aah, aware of my circumstances here on the island. I wish... you see, you have been so helpful, ne? You and Dean, it's very much the only family I have right now."
Angua nodded and watched O-Ren with a solemn expression, giving the younger girl's hand a squeeze. "We'll do anything for you, O-Ren. What is it you need?"
Her cheeks turning red, O-Ren stammered a little bit. "Well, you see... I... I would for you to adopt me. Then, then I could call you Okaa-san, and when you and Dean get married... a proper family..."
Angua's mouth formed a small "o" of surprise. Her hand unconsciously gripped O-Ren's tighter, and when she realized this she pulled away. Then immediately grabbed O-Ren's hand again.
"Oh, O-Ren, I would be honored to adopt you and call you my daughter," she said in a rush, tears in her eyes, cheeks pink. "You are my family. It would mean so much to me."
"Please..." She held her arms out, beckoning O-Ren over for a hug.
With a tiny, happy cry of surprise, O-Ren flew into her arms, pressing her face into Angua's shoulder. Why had she let herself remain so closed off? This felt wonderful, and fresh, and like home.
Angua wrapped her arms tightly around O-Ren, cradling her close. She was crying a little, overcome with emotion that she would be wanted in such a way.
"Oh, sweetheart," she murmured against the younger girl's hair. She pressed a kiss the top of her head. "I love you."
Though even this O-Ren couldn't cry, her eyes were hot and a little wet. "I love you too," she whispered. "Will you stay with me always? I can't have anyone leave me again..."
"Of course!" Angua gasped, shaken by the very idea. She pulled back enough so she could see O-Ren's face. "I will not leave you or this island for anything."
"Oh, I should think so. Let's go talk to him, shall we?" Angua offered, standing and taking O-Ren's hand to hold as they walked. "Dean is a good man. I dare to say the most wonderful man I have ever met."
"Oh, this is lovely," she said as she took in the table of tea and flowers, greeting O-Ren with a smile. She motioned to the empty seat. "May I?"
