What I thought was a false alarm in my Oct 16 entry turned out to be the real thing!
That night, my contractions were 5-7 minutes apart so my doctor told me to go to the hospital right away. I was in the labor room of VRPMC around 1am of Oct 17. My contractions were getting stronger but I wasn't dilating. The nurses attached a fetal monitor around my waist, and they observed that the baby's heartbeat was going down with each contraction. My doctor suspected that the umbilical cord might be looped around the baby's neck. Around 8:30am, I was wheeled into the operating room for a C-section operation. And at 9:15am, baby Martina Rafaella was born.
There she is, my pretty princess. My super likot princess - because her umbilical cord was looped around her body 3 times - around the neck, her chest, and her foot!
Because I was sedated and high on pain relievers for 2 days, I only saw my baby "in person" on the third day. I thought I was going to cry when I first saw her, but I didn't. Maybe because there were too many people in the room that time. Later that night, when only Martina and I were awake, that's when I had my "J&J" moment. I just coudn't believe that this tiny person was inside me for nine months. I couldn't believe I have a baby. I couldn't believe I'm a mom now.
I can never explain the joy.
