So I was thinking

I don't know if this been brought up before, but I was reading the earlier books when Mal and Jessi joined and Stacey moved back to NY. Mal and Jessi couldn't go because they were "too young"

But uh.........aren't they the same age in later books? Makes no sense!!

No one knows. And really, except for about November and December, they wouldn't all be the same age (13 and 11) all at the same time, due to when their birthdays are.

Logan - January
Dawn - February
Shannon - March
Stacey - April
Mallory - May
Jessi - June
Claudia - July
Kristy - August
Mary Anne - September
Abby - October

So some of the older members would be 14 while some others are 13, and Mal and Jessi would be 10 in some books, or maybe 11 -> 12?

THE TIME WARP IS CONFUSING.

Yeah, EXTREMELY confusing.
But yeah, I wondered about that - them being 13 at the same time... Well some would be for a couple months at least. And it's plausible they'd all be in the same grade... Although Idk now looking at the list you made... I have a late b-day [September] so kids a grade below me were always usually the same age... Confusing. Heh.
Anyway, and anyone notice how none of the girls' b-days never overlap in the same month/s [-i.e., 2 members sharing a birth month]. And what if another character was added, would he/she be gvien a b-day in Nov.-? Or maybe I'm noticing the consecutive order in too crucial a way. Heh

Our cutoff (in Michigan) was December 1st or something like that, so I was always the youngest in my grade with a late November birthday. They definitely could all be in the same grade.

Oh I live in MI too - in Waterford.
Yeah Dec. 1st, my bro.'s b-day is Dec. 2nd so he only missed it by a day but had to wait another yr.
But yeah ur right - they could all be, some being several months older or younger than the others.

What I don't get is how their parents didn't let them babysit at nite, but they let them go on all these random vacation with people they barely knew (ie, going to California and staying with Dawn's dad, or going to NY and staying with Stacey's dad.)

I guess it's okay after you've turned 11 for the 5th time...LOL.

The BSC time warp is confusing!

But of course they could go to California and on the cruise and all of those other places. Not too young for THEM places. :P

Well, in SS1, where they went on the cruise, Mallory was with her parents. And unless I'm remembering incorrectly, that was pre-Jessi?

Well, maybe it's because later on the series, Mal and Jessi's parents loosened up after seeing how responsible and capable M & J were as sitters. And even though the Ramseys and the Pikes don't know Ed or Jack, they know Sharon and Maureen pretty well, I think. Also, Jessi didn't know Stacey at all, and Mallory wasn't really friends with Stacey at the time of Stacey's Mistake, so there really wasn't a reason for them to go visit her.
