I'd been wanting to read Here Come the Bridesmaids for ages. It's the last Super Special I hadn't read, and I really like Carol, and usually I like Dawn. But UGH. The best plot was Mr. Schafer's wedding and Dawn's/Jeff's reactions to it, and even that wasn't great. The C plot of Jessi playing Santa Claus was SO boring; the eleven-year-old romantic drah-ma between "Mel'ry" and Ben was laughable; the DeWitt/Barrett plot had holes all over the place (it was a ridiculous wedding for two recently divorced people to have, they picked only two of the kids to actually BE in the wedding--why didn't Suzi whine about that?--and how is it that Mrs. Barrett had only just ordered bridesmaid dresses shortly before the wedding?); neither Kristy nor Sunny got to do anything interesting at all, but rather than leave them out, someone drummed up the surprise party non-plot; and I know I've seen others mention the ridiculousness of Dawn and then Mary Anne thinking Mary Anne should be a bridesmaid. Also, Mary Anne's weirdness about the idea of a beach wedding was so fake; she would have thought it was a romantic IDEA, at least. Claudia's C plot about being a wedding coordinator had potential, but didn't get enough time. And you generally can't order that many flowers that late.
My favorite thing was when Lerangis acknowledged that someone had slipped and named two different characters Ryan DeWitt.
So I think, overall, this is the worst Super Special. It's too bad, because I think California Girls! is one of the best, maybe even THE best.
Any other opinions on either this book or what you think the best and worst Super Specials are?
