OMG this is amazing. I love how you grew up the characters and how they turned out. I swear you are fueling my muse. Everytime I read a chapter of yours I want to work on more of my stories. Even if I only do one-shots.
I'm really loving this story. I like how older Kristy's bossiness comes from a really caringplace as opposed to crazy control-freak teenage Kristy.
And I'm actually wondering how much thought you put into their kids' names, because they are all pitch perfect. Stacey's are trendy, Kristy and Mary Anne went with a more traditional sound, and Claudia's is very hipsterish. I'm a dork who thinks about names a lot and on the rare occasion I write fic with original characters, it takes me forever ton think of names :)
I think about names a lot, and you got my thinking exactly. Stacey's names are just trendy, but there's a little more to Allie and Zee, which should come up sometime later. (Though you might guess the reason for Allie before it comes up in story. It's not an original idea.)
And I'm glad that comes across in Kristy. Part of what I wanted to do with all of them was to keep the traits that we know them for and make those deeper and more adult. Something I can understand and care about.
It's kind of the theme I'm going for with this series, familiar from the original books but more satisfying for an older audience. I'm a big fan of the later Anne books, so this is kind of my Anne's House of Dreams or Anne of Ingleside for the BSC. I might not always get there, but that's what I'm going for.
Yeah, I write Mary Anne with an Alma-called-Allie, too. I'm in love with Zee's name - possibly because in my future-'verse, Claudia has a son named Zane?? Kinda similar.
I am so thrilled that you're thinking of this series as your Anne's House of Dreams/Anne of Ingleside for the BSC! Oh Anne... one of my other great literary loves. <3
You know, I probably would have gone with Zane if I remembered it. (I'm glad I didn't, that might have really weirded you out.) For some reason it just seems like Claudia's kid should have a Z name.
