Yamapi's overseas drama debut in the Japan & Europe co-produced original Hulu drama "THE HEAD"

INTRODUCTION
Under the direction of Emmy award winning producer, set in Antarctica, starts this extreme survival mystery! A co-production between Japan and Europe, Hulu will take part in this out of the norm international drama!!
This summer, Hulu moves towards an international project we’ve never done before.
THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, a prominent European production company leads this huge international drama “THE HEAD” (a total of 6 episodes) and it’s been decided for us to take part in this production!
In charge of this work is the Emmy award winner of the worldwide hit drama “HOMELAND,” Ran Tellem. He will be the executive producer and this will be released globally.
On Spring 2020, this will be distributed as a Hulu original serial drama in Japan. Others will be the main broadcaster in Europe, also in Central and South America, HBO Asia covering 23 countries and regions. Also, the successive release will be simultaneous across all distributing platforms in each region.
From Japan, Yamashita Tomohisa is the lone main cast selected! It’s his first appearance in a global drama series, as for the story, he will be a researcher with an extremely important role! The entire location will be overseas for this large-scale filming and he will challenge the lines that will all be in English.
STORY
“THE HEAD” is an “extreme survival mystery” set in a scientific research base in a remote region of Antarctica.
Covered by darkness and glaciers, this “long winter” welcomes these researchers whose “wintering party” leaves behind 10 people away from the base…
However, in the middle of the winter for half a year, the communication between the base and the outside world breaks off.
Several weeks after, when the researchers return to the base, there spreads a disastrous scene that’s too much to take, practically the researchers are dead, 1 is missing with 2 survivors.
What in the world happened in the base in those 6 months? In this deep darkness circulates a mystery, in this base which can be referred to as a solitary island, these people who are placed in an extreme situation unfolds a grand mental battle!

This is my first time to experience participating in such work that will reach a lot of people all over the world including Japan. I was delighted when my participation in this project has been decided, at the same time, I embraced the thought “I want to properly be a part of this work.”
“THE HEAD” sticks through a thrilling story, as it firmly expresses the essence of a human being, I myself was made to think about a lot of things.
To be able to play one important person in such work, I feel the responsibility and pressure but I’ll do my utmost best to make my character fit in to this work.
In listening to the cordial light mood talk of the overall director producer Ran Tellem and director Jorge Dorado, are people who has extra ordinary passion towards this project.
Even through a screen-phone, every time the personality and stance are discussed to me, the more I look forward to the filming.
Since the lines are in English, the sentiment and situation have to be understood, and of course it has to practiced for it to come out naturally that’s why I’m fully preparing for this challenge.
Also, since all my costars are full of international character, at first, there’s probably that culture barrier but I want to make this a work that would join together the “hearts” universally.
I think when I properly convey my own thoughts and opinion, teamwork can be established.
Also, for this work to be enjoyed by a lot people aiming to pierce through hearts, I want to challenge this with complete devotion.
I want to further acquire experience sharing the responsibility with the talented cast and crew gathered on location while studying English and the production style.

When it was decided for Japan’s Hulu to join in our plan, I felt it wasn’t just a collaboration.
The addition of a Japanese character in this international work is something that we have strongly wished for.
Welcoming Tomohisa as one cast in this work called “THE HEAD,” is extremely big, his acting ability and own charm will be brought out, a fresh approach as a European produced TV drama, I believe is something rare to produce.
This work for sure will bring impact to the viewers not just in Japan and Europe but the around the world.
We eagerly look forward to the day to meet Tomohisa on location, I can’t suppress the excitement in this challenge of making a fresh Japanese character.
