[Y!News] Code Blue's success in terms of ratings & satisfaction
Article is a week old already since I didn't make it in time before Ep5 aired last week but it's a good read so I still finished it XD Not a direct translation. Skipped the parts which talk about the drama's plot since we know them all already. Usual disclaimer: amateur translation. Feel free to point out any mistakes if there are.

The top rating drama now is Fuji TV's "Code Blue ~Doctor Heli Emergency Lifesaving~ THE THIRD SEASON"
The average rating until episode 4 of Season 1 (2008 Summer) and Season 2 (2009 Winter) were at 17%. However, for Season 3, the average is at 15% It looks like it went 2%.
However, in the 8~9 year interval, viweing of video recording playbacks has suddenly increased.
Based on the Video Research Company's investigation measuring both real time and time shift ratings, the put together result, Season 3's 1st episode and 2nd episode too exceeded 24%. In other words, the current drama, is being watched more than the previous seasons.
High degree of satisfaction
The amazing thing about Code Blue 3 is it's not only just in TV ratings. Data News Co.'s "Tv Watcher" investigates the degree of satisfaction and here too, for several years, in dramas with high television ratings, Code Blue is in the Top 5.
1st is "Hanzawa Naoki" (TBS, 2013 Summer) with an average TV rating of 28.7% for 10 episodes and a degree of satisfaction of 4.34
Next is "Shitamachi Rocket" (TBS, 2015 Fall). Has an average TV rating of 18.5% and a degree of satisfaction of 4.23
Another is "Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu" (TBS, 2016 Fall). Average TV rating of 14.9% and a degree of satisfaction of 4.11
Others are:
"Hanasaki Mai ga Damattenai" (NTV, Summer 2015). Average TV rating of 14.5% and a degree of satisfaction of 4.00
"Doctor X" (TV Asahi, Fall 2016). Average TV rating of 21.5% and a degree of satisfaction of 3.93
"Chiisana Kyojin" (TBS, Spring 2017). Average TV rating of 13.6% and a degree of satisfaction of 3.92
"HERO" (FujiTV, Summer 2014). Average TV rating of 21.3% and a degree of satisfaction of 3.89
Currently, Code Blue 3 up to episode 3 has an average TV rating of 15.1% and a degree of satisfaction of 4.02. It doesn't match Shitamachi but it wins against NigeHaji. For FujiTV, this is becoming their best in several years.
1st wave: Emergency Lifesaving Story
In "TV Watcher", aside from the degree of satisfation, it measures the "rate of wanting to watch the next episode". Practically viewers score on this 5 scale:
"I'll definitely watch"
"I'll watch as much as possible"

"Maybe I won't watch"

In Hollywood movies, to be considered a hit, it needs to have 3 waves. "The 1st wave" is that more than 80% of the viewers should be able to appreciate it or what you can say "the surge is easy to understand"
In Code Blue, occurence of disasters, dispatching of Doctor Heli, extremely difficult surgeries, most emergency lifesaving requests on locations, a story on the lives of the casualties/patients attracts majority of the viewers thus has become a "big wave"
Carrying the "big wave" are also the actors this season since being able to see
them is also a factor for the viewers.

2nd wave: Human Drama
Configuring the conditions of a hit, the 2nd wave is the viewer's 5 part interest in a human drama (middle wave)
The characters' work, living standpoint, heart subtleties influence this wave. It's how viewers themselves are able to empathize.
In Code Blue, there are 4 know layers: "people who turn over the position to their junior", "people who start to take control", "newbies", "patients". How many stories are able to blend this? With each standpoint, viewers are able to sympathize, being attached to the characters.

Example is interns undergoing training. The conflict on how the newbies are taught by Aizawa & Shiraishi in Episode 2 brought a huge response from viewers.

It's like saying "success originates from failure." In other words, patients are living flesh, human beings who experience pain, and suffer conditions that is something to be afraid of.

The flying scenes of Doctor Heli have always been beautiful and cool. The lifesaving emergency locations has good tempo and brimming with high tension. From the veterans to the newbies, also the patients' human drama, one is able to fully empathize . Furthermore, the medical treatment subject is able make the society think deeply. And in this way, the 3 waves intertwine the magnificent points. Diverse viewers' varied interests are taken in, Code Blue acquired substantively and qualitatively high assessment from the viewers. This only condition is present in this drama. From hereon, the main 5 members' drama respectively gets going, looking forward to it becoming more interesting.
