We're back to the usual episode length this week, the shortest so far and yet had so many medical terminologies used. New and rare instances and treatment -- cyanide poisoning and damage control. During operating scenes, I decided to simplify the medical terms used that it is easy to read and understand as you watch. Like instead of thoracotomy (

Honestly there are so many good things about Code Blue that I think we can make a thesis out of it XD and I love that you pointed out that they asks questions but never directly answering. They started that last season. And I remember something Saijou-sensei told Shiraishi in S2E2. As doctors they guide their patients in making the (right) choice. Non verbatim but something like that. They don't impose but they guide. I was really hopeful when Aizawa held out the pen but when Kanade said she's scared gripping tightly the paper, Aizawa withdrew his hand and my heart just broke for the girl's life.
I know most fans doubted the writer as soon as it was posted in the official site because of the change. Of course who wouldn't, right? There was nothing wrong in the 1st 2 seasons so why change? But even with that doubt, I still trusted the producer. And so far, what do we get, apart from the interns/newbies we usually pick on (lol), we have these awesome lines/conversations and refreshing subplots too - the 'love outcome' that most Japanese fans were worried about too haha and yes, new situations and medical procedures. (I remember Shiraishi already did gauze packing in S2 for Cardiac Tamponade although it wasn't shown in detail unlike in S3E3)

About the girl, I was wondering whether she was actually eligible to make decision on her surgery as she is only 14 years old. If I was her parents, I will be in a panic state as her tumor is already 3.5cm which is like super big and if she leave it as it is, then operation wont be part of her option anymore and she has to rely on radiology only. The pain on her head will be unbearable by then and she wont be able to eat, keep vomiting and could lose her eyesight as well. :(
I was one of those who doubt the writer haha. Particularly since she is the one who wrote Shitsuren Chocolatier and lots of people were disappointed with the script. Please tell me more on the 'love outcome' that most Japanese fans were worried about. Is it between Aizawa & Shiraishi? lol the fact that Aizawa said 'he is coming back to the team as Shiraishi was there' & 'she is interesting' is already seemed out of character to me haha. But I love the comedic part of the drama so I hope it will keep coming in the future episode as well. :D
Is it? I somehow kind of remember it. I ended up hunting down that episode and ended up watching the awesome surgery that Aizawa and Shiraishi did at the cabin where Aizawa did the hilar twist (despite not having any experience on doing it before) and gauze packing the patient as they are racing through time because of the strong wind. And the tour guide keep babbling to them whether the man will be save or not and Aizawa told him off by saying; 'You couldn't predict the rocks will fall right? Then it is hindsight-based opinion. You're free to have regrets, but please dont complain all over the place and get in the way.' lol I love Aizawa as his words always cut straight to people's heart -- and he always done it with low tone without even raising his voice. XD That is why I'm loving how sarcastic and insensitive he is to the new interns as well.

New writer-san is surprising definitely lol. Code Blue being her first med drama?! Such a huge task so I understand the doubt. Ok I change my earlier statement. Everyone was worried haha. She has a number of Getsu9 dramas under her belt but they are questionable more than satisfying haha. And they're all love stories?? So I understand the love subplot but I appreciate it just being subtle hints (Aizawa/Shiraishi). And well when "love outcome" came out..fans were like whaaaat?? That's just Fujikawa/Saejima right? That's enough lol. For me, the comedic bits is refreshing. I don't think it's overly done anyway and distracting to the main plot. It actually gives the drama a better balance and more flexibility :)
What ep is the gauze packing of Shiraishi? It's in the last episode. The patient is the father of that young girl who had a discord with her father prior to the plane accident. Just like Shiraishi's situation then with her father. Ah, that hilar twist was memorable. I love how Tachibana trusted Aizawa and Shiraishi then to take over him & Hiyama for heli duty. I was so annoyed at that guide then so I was so relieved when Aizawa got to shut him up lol

Was there gauze packing in previous seasons? hmm maybe there is, but the damage control (I guess gauze packing in the midst of surgery to stop bleeding, wait 24 hours, then continue) is definitely a new technique, I assume this is the new method Pi mentioned from his jweb email. haha
I think they're hoping to showcase more advancement in the field in later episodes, such as placing a camera in the front pocket of flight doctors, so it shows the patient's situation on site, and a senior doctor at the hospital can advice and direct. This sounds pretty cool! Can't wait for them to show it!

They should really push more of that medical advancements. We've already seen them now using smartphones instead of mobile phones. The patient's charts are now computerized by their bec. Even the consent form Aizawa signed was in a tablet already. It's nice to see that kind of advancement given the big gap. Come on, even the hospital has been remodeled since S2! :)
Lol at that explanation of the producer about Aizawa and Shiraishi. It'd definitely be weird if Code Blue turns into a love story that's why subtle hints here and there work. But did that statement just end A/S?? Aww that'd break a lot of hearts rather shippers lol where did you read it from?

I actually agree with producer that is why I never ship Aizawa & Shiraishi since the first season. They both are too awkward and stiff and I personally thought Haruka suit him more lol. Both are aces in their respective field and Haruka has always been the one beside him when he did all the on field surgery. :P
I LOVE all the new technology they show in the current season. Now they are doing FAST on a tablet and most country still use the big monitor to do that haha. And even when Haruka start to gain consciousness, the chart beside her bed show it first before Fujikawa turned to her.

IDK, for some reasons, I think the writer just want to mess with us aside from it being a subtle love lines. Like when Aizawa said Shiraishi is interesting, I go 'ehhhh??' with her as well ngl but I guess what he meant by 'interesting' is that despite being an adult, she still write her wish on the Tanibata paper strip like a kid thus Aizawa finds it interesting. The interesting part also got to do with his decision to come back to the team as he finds the team in general (including Shiraishi) as interesting as brain surgery. Plus, he ended that 1st episode with saying a long the lines achieving what you dream of with your nakama (friends) as in creating a team as good as Kuroda-sensei's team like what Shiraishi wished as well. So its like the writer purposely make it like that but it can also mean other thing as well.
I think I have rewatch all the seasons and the SP back. Particularly when I rewatched back the cabin episode, it reminded me on how Aizawa has always make subtle advise to make all his friends feel good. Like in the same episode, Hiyama was called a murderer and he console her in the elevator. Or the part where he said he will attend Fujikawa's funeral when Fujikawa said he envy Satoshi's funeral. He always been the guy who encourage people subtlety and I think I want to rewatch all of that again. :D
