Glee Hogwarts!AU

Seeing as how I've now played this several times, I thought I'd put down my headcanon for Hogwarts!Kurt, for anyone who's interested or, more likely, just so I don't forget later on.

Kurt is a Slytherin. He didn't know when he was being Sorted that Slytherin was considered by most the "evil" House, and he really liked the House colors (he's always looked good in green). He does, in fact, possess several very Slytherin traits: he's manipulative, sneaky, possessive, and snarky. He's also fiercely loyal, but only to those relative few who have made it past all his defenses and he's deemed to call 'friend'. Those who have made it that far he considers family, and he would literally kill for them.

Originally coming up with the idea and his background, I had in mind that Blaine was The Boy Who Lived (naturally), and Kurt his Slytherin rival, for several reasons. 1) I can see Kurt & Draco being a lot alike, 2) I've also played Draco and it made sense to me, & 3) I ship Drarry, it made sense to me.

Be it a Trio Era AU, or "real time" TNG AU, Kurt's background is still the same. His mother died when he was young, and he was raised by his Muggle father. Even before his mother died he knew about magic and knew that he possessed it just like his mother; she didn't use it often, and taught Kurt that magic doesn't, and indeed can't, fix everything. This was reinforced by the fact that she herself was unable to be saved by it.

Thus, being in Slytherin has proven problematic for Kurt. He tries to prove himself by being studious and the best student in Slytherin, and in fact has become somewhat popular in the House. But he's always trying to draw attention away from the fact that he's not a pureblood like the majority of his Housemates.

This in particular is crucial if it's set during the Trio Era, because to the rest of the school, Kurt seems doted upon by Professor Snape, and is considered the teacher's pet, but behind closed Slytherin doors Snape can barely tolerate him, treating him hardly better than how he treats the Boy Who Lived. (What Kurt doesn't know is that Snape sees a lot of himself in Kurt and his family circumstances, and it's more out of self-loathing than actually disliking Kurt that Snape treats him the way he does.)
