It's the early hours of the morning the day after everyone arrives at the barracks. As the sun breaks over the trees and sends scattershot yellow light through the mist that drifts lazily within the barracks grounds, a long brown shape darts between the buildings. It's hard to get a good look at it, quick as it is--three feet of stocky body, another foot and a half of rudder-tail. It looks (in those brief moments that it pauses between scuffles) more or less like an American River Otter.

It is in fact a she, and anyone paying attention will start to notice a distinct pattern to her movements. Start at the wall of the library, beneath the mural; dart away and disappear. Return to the mural. Arrange something there. Dart away again.

Lather, rinse, repeat ad infinitum.

In a tidy pile against the wall of the library, the following items rest:

A slightly broken sonic screwdriver.
A fabulously embroidered silk handkerchief.
A set of car keys to a 1968 Corvette.
An EMF reader of the Winchester persuasion.
A black ink pen from one Jo Harvelle.
Two markers (one yellow, one blue).
A bottle of vodka.
One FBI badge and identification, belonging to Peter Burke.
A taser.
One silver Razr cellphone with the names and numbers of several... specials in the contacts.
And, finally, an iPhone.
