Donna was the consummate city girl, more at home in the urban jungle of London than any real, physical forests. Her granddad always tried to get her to go camping with him when she was younger, but it was one of the few adventures that had never tempted her - of all the places to go, an uninhabited bunch of trees seemed impossibly dull.

(Later on in life, she replaced "impossibly dull" with "full of things that will chase after you and possibly try to eat you, not to mention plants that will snag and rip and ruin any clothes you happen to be wearing and unspeakable things on the ground that will ruin your favourite heeled boots". It was, she reckoned, an even better reason to avoid them - Charlemagne could just get kidnapped by aliens in the middle of the Ardennes for all she cared, Magna Carta or no.)

And, well, she'd been busy saving the world and all - well, helping to save the world - well, sort of staring at the Daleks and their mad creator Davros - the point was, all of time and space was in pretty immediate danger and she needed to be there, not in some woods covered with snow.

Besides, she was freezing, even with her leather jacket on. She scowled, toeing the snow with a boot, and tucked her hands under her arms to keep them warm.

"Oi! Doctor!" All right, so shouting would attract whatever nasty beasties were in the woods - but she didn't want to be stuck out here alone, either.

(No matter what else was going on, it was clear her lungs still worked just as well as they always had.)

She paused for a moment, then added in a slightly quieter tone, "...anybody?"

(It wasn't much quieter.)

Exasperated, Donna kicked a tree, which only resulted in hopping on one foot as she let out a stream of curses. Things were not going well.
