[open] My heart’s aflame, my body’s strained, but God I like it

Alec hunted at night, just because it was easier. He didn’t have to worry about the civilians back at the barracks seeing him in all his X5 glory and thinking he was part of the forest mojo, and the deer didn’t exactly see him either. Technically, he probably didn’t even have to hunt. He could eat the food that was delivered at the storehouse ( Read more... )

Jessica had been out wandering the woods at night when she had smelt the animal blood and fire in the air. Even though she could go out in the sun here, she still found herself keeping noctural habits more often than not, mostly out of habit. Who knew when she might get zapped back home, where the sun could kill her? It was best not to get too used to things ( ... )

Alec had heard her footsteps approaching, and he turned when he heard her voice behind him, smile on his face. "Hey," he nodded, before pushing himself up to dry his hands off on his jeans. "Long time, no see."

There were so very few people whose friendship wasn't dependent on him playing nice with Dean, that seeing someone he was actually friends with was probably one of the best things that had happened to him all day. Alec didn't like conditional friendship -- that was just asking for pain and suffering -- but here, he was doing what he had to do. In fact, there were so few people he could just be open with about what he was. Either way, Jessica was a person he was looking forward to seeing.

"It has been a while, hasn't it?" She asked, smiling a little in response. She hadn't seen him since she first arrived, which was a couple of weeks ago, now. She had thought of visiting him a few times, but she didn't want him to think he was just a foodbank to her or something.

Still, it was nice to have a friend. She didn't have a lot of those here, or at home, for that matter. Unlike some of the others, there was no one from her home here, which just made her feel more alone. It made her glad that there was at least one person who seemed to like her company.

"Yeah, it has. Everything been turning out okay for you?" He was aware that there were some intolerant douchebags in their midst. He had run into them. They kind of sucked, and he wanted to know if Jessica was getting any trouble so he should know who to hit if necessary.

"It's been alright. Been tryin' to keep a low profile." Which was the truth. After her talk with Desmond, and seeing the list he was making and how many hunters of supernatural things there were here? She wasn't exactly keen on letting people know what she was, which mostly resulted in her trying to avoid people as much as possible. It didn't help that her fangs still sometimes popped out under their own volition. She didn't exactly have control down just yet.

"Good plan. I didn't keep low enough, unfortunately."

He shouldn't have made the stupid video. Then he wouldn't be having this Dean issues. He should have just stayed holed up in his cabin and avoided the rest of the world. That? Would have been a solid plan. But he had to open his big fat mouth, and now look where he's landed.

"What'd you mean?" She asked, her face forming a worried frown now. "What happened? Someone givin' you trouble?" She didn't like that idea, at all. He was practically her only friend, after all. Her anger flared up in a familiar need for violence that she experienced more and more since Bill turned her, but she tried her best to suppress it. It's not like she even had a name to go after yet.

He waved a hand trying not to make a big deal about it. He knew that familiar need for anger -- anger was about the only emotion that Manticore actually condoned -- but he didn't want Jessica getting into trouble on his behalf. It wasn't worth it.

"There's another guy here with my face. Things haven't exactly been easy with him and his friends. And then a friend of mine from home showed up, but she's from before we were actually friends. So ... things in the life of Alec? Not so awesome at the moment."

Her whole life it seemed she had been trying to hold back her anger, but now that she was a vampire, it was much harder to do.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Jessica said in a sympathetic tone, and really she did. Someone with his face? That was just really weird. But she made the mental note to be more cautious next time she thought she saw Alec, just in case it was this other guy instead.

He shrugged. "Story of my life." And the sad fact of the matter was that it actually was. He's quiet for a moment, before bouncing back and giving her a smile. "But enough about me. What's going on in the world of Jessica?"

"Sounds like a sad story," She commented with an awkward shrug of her shoulders. But weren't all stories sad, one way or another? She knew her own was.

"Nothin' too interesting, really. I met a few people, but that's all. Nothin' excitin' has happened to me or anything."

He nodded. "That's good. No excitement is definitely the way to go in a place like this. Or at least that's the impression I'm getting."

"I guess. It's gets pretty borin' after a while though," She said with a bit out of a pout and a dramatic sigh. She knew it was better to keep a low profile and not let people know what she was, but it was definitely not the exciting way to go.

"Yeah, that's true," Alec sighed as he leaned back, propping himself up on his elbows a bit. "Sorta like a catch-22 that way."

"Damned if you do, damned if you don't," She murmured softly. Then again, from what she gathered on her communicator thing, it didn't seem like anyone in these stupid woods were having an easy go at things.

"Exactly," he sighed. "But hey. Not all of it's too bad. I get to indulge my inner deer hunter."
