Okay, this? This was a bad idea. Unfortunately, this bad idea was already well underway before Tommy realized just how bad it was, which placed him in a pretty awkward position. So, let's start from the beginning. As a teenage boy-- well, a geriatric alien in the body of a teenage boy, same difference-- Tommy had a pretty high threshold for grossness. But there came a time in every boy's life when he could take no more, and Tommy reached that point quite a while ago. So he started going commando, and that helped for a little while, but as of a few days ago, he finally realized that he had to bite the bullet and do the unthinkable: his laundry.
And without a washing machine or a Sally, he was pretty much lost. He'd tried to do his job as Information Officer and dig up what he could from the library, but nooo, it was just full of a bunch of stupid fairy tales with the endings ripped out. Not a single encyclopedia or a news article or anything factual. Plus, with his luck? In the off-chance that he did find a real book about this place somewhere, it would probably have everything he needed to know ripped out, too. "LAUNDROMAT: Located at REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED has been established since REDACTED and REDACTED use detergent."
So, fine, okay. He'd do this the old-fashioned way. Humans got by without technology before, right? Like, the Amish did okay for themselves, and... and prehistoric man certainly didn't need fabric softener.
Yeah, he'd be okay. All he needed was to find a water source and give his clothes a good washing and scrubbing until they were clean and presentable again. No problem!
...
And that was how Tommy found himself waist-deep in the river, naked, with his wet clothes laid out in the grass to dry. In retrospect, he probably shouldn't have tried to do all of his laundry at once.
He crossed his arms and shivered a little, then looked around, a slightly apprehensive expression on his face. He really hoped no girls were nearby. Or, if they were, that they would be so moved by his manly confidence that they would join him in the river for a little bit of light splashing.
He let out a dreamy little sigh at that thought. It was a good thing he couldn't be seen below the waist right now.
