Things hadn't exactly calmed down in the barracks, but Ruby was tired of being the one that snuck in and out of the place. She'd toured the woods, she'd slipped into the shadows, and now she was just plain old bored

"You look like you're getting comfortable," Claire remarked as she approached the porch, a languid kind of smile on her face. She kept off of it for the sake of courtesy, but considering no one here knew each other too well, she liked to think that her and Ruby were at least slightly more friendly than that. "Not that this is exactly what I'd call keeping yourself occupied, but to each her own, right?"
Mostly, she wanted to check in -- she couldn't help feeling a little responsible, like she needed to keep an eye on everyone from their group. Sure, she'd been the one to get them kidnapped by furry fae, with the help of Cordelia, and Karrin was probably the more qualified one to keep an eye on them all, but Claire's instincts to try and be the hero weren't exactly the most logical thing to begin with.
Not that she was going to hurt Ruby's pride by insinuating she was checking in on her, of course.
Taking a very, very unneeded breath, Ruby shrugged, "I'm trying to adapt. I figure this is one of those lemons things, right?"
Smiling, politely she sat up a bit straighter, leaning forward to rest her arms to her knees a bit, "Besides, it can't exactly hurt to get comfortable when things change."
From what she knew about Claire, she was going to have to pull a few tricks to get things going, but she wasn't beyond doing those sort of things. "What about you? No random events that we need an all-points bulletin about, right?"
Her optimism was inspiring, truly, even if it was a little wasted on Claire. She raised her eyebrows a little, looking just the slightest bit judgmental of it. Then again, lately, she wasn't known for having much optimism herself, and seeing it in someone else when she was used to considering herself the naive one was just a little twilight zone.
"Actually," the all-points bulletin wasn't such a bad idea. "There is one thing. There was this guy, I heard he was trying to attack people." Make it a third party. Good plan, Claire. "This girl, Anna. The redhead? She told me he tried to use these weird … abilities to throw her against a tree or something." Well. Anna had said she wanted to help. Well, look at that, she's helping.
"I tried to get a description, but she wasn't really helpful. Just that he was tall, had dark hair and hadn't shaved in a while." She rolled her eyes a little. "Then again, I'm pretty sure, at this point, no one's shaved in a while. Anyway. You should keep an eye out -- avoid him, if you can."
There were a few things that Ruby picked up on in the conversation, her least favorite being that there was a red-head named Anna here. Just what she needed. It was either going to be the defiant angel that had a fondness for the backseat of the Impala -- or a crazy psycho babble girl that didn't have her grace.
Still, Ruby kept her expression in check, making sure to note that for the next "not-call" that Sam had with her. Instead, she opted to just continue with the plan. If anything, she was pretty shocked that it was getting on topic so quickly.
"Yeah, I know that I'm seriously considering finding a roll of duct tape to stick to my legs." Which was a lie, since she had a knife and didn't actually care too much if she nicked herself when doing her haphazard job using just soap and water.
Of course, then she let her expression get a bit serious. Her brow furrowed a bit, "Wait... weird abilities?" Ruby made sure to put the emphasis where it needed to be. The long chat with Sylar had given her a pretty good idea of how screwed up

Sam considered himself for all intents and purposes, to be "better", at least in regards to the hole that had been punched through his soul upon his unfortunate arrival here.
But of course, one failing gave way to another. It was too hard to stay away from Ruby too long, and while he was pretty sure Dean still didn't know she was hanging around, it was still difficult to convince himself that sneaking off to see her wouldn't resort in his brother stalking him and discovering it for himself.
He didn't want to feel guilty about how that might go down.
He'd had his share of guilt already, after those first couple weeks.
When Dean announced that he actually had somewhere to be, Sam took advantage, and he bee lined straight for Ruby's. He was more than surprised to find her on the porch, and he stood there for a second awkwardly at the step, glancing around, as if he assumed she'd be skulking in shadows somewhere.
Canting her head to the side, she smirked up at him, "Like what I've done with the place? I swept."
She had to admit that it was hard to just joke with him, to not immediately feel like she was some secondary visit that he only came to because he needed something in her, not actually needed her. Still, she was starting to learn that she could find assets in other forms, other people.
It didn't dull the slight sting of being something she figured Sam was ashamed of. She did miss him though.
"Wanna come in?" Her head tipped back a bit, gesturing toward the doorway.
Instead of laughing at her slight joke, he just nodded and ran a hand through his hair. "Yeah, let's go in," he said, wasting no time in ascending the steps up to the porch and pushing the door in. He held it open for her, but it was hardly a gentlemanly demeanor that he was presenting. It was obvious he wanted them out of the public eye as quickly as possible, by the way his eyes scanned the empty row that her building was located on.
Well, someone got some extra paranoid in with their Wheaties this morning, but Ruby figured this was just more fun in the lives of the Winchesters. Following him inside, she moved to the middle of the room. It wasn't as if she really knew what he wanted, so her taking the offense wasn't going to do shit.
Instead, her hands tucked into the back pockets of her jeans, keeping her eye on him, "You doing okay there, Boyscout?"

"Hey," he finally said.
