[There's a bit of fumbling and closeup of Spencer's mouth and neck as he tries to figure out how to work this communicator.]

Oh!

[When he realizes it's on, he draws it back so that all of his face appears in the screen.]H-Hi.. everyone. My name is Spencer Reid... I work for the FBI back home. Um.. anyway.. I'm wondering if anyone can point me ( Read more... )

[And here's a somewhat quizzical looking fifteen-year-old.]

School to restore a sense of normalcy?

Yes. Studies have shown that after a traumatic event such as being brought to this place, it's helpful for children to return to patterns that they're familiar with as quickly as possible. School tends to be a familiar pattern for most children from Western cultures.

Western in respect to, er, wherever you're from, may I presume?

[He considers that for a moment. Most?] Most as in...most of everyone?

Western generally refers to the Western Hemisphere and European countries. And yes, most children under the age of 18 are required to go to school in those areas.

[Spencer's confused by this line of questioning. This boy clearly speaks English, yet he doesn't know about school?"]

[Leaf's feeling equally confused! He's used to the fact that nobody else seems to be from anywhere he's actually heard of, but the idea of school being for everyone and not just a handful of nobles' sons with the right political connections?

Mind. Blown.]

...they can all afford that?

[Spencer's very curious where this kid is from.]

Most Westernized governments provide school for the children of their countries.

That's amazing.

[Amazing and probably not feasible to make happen in Lenster anytime soon, but you better believe he's thinking about it now.]

Yeah... I-I take it you're not from a Westernized country then?

It seems that no one here has. Then again, I've not heard of the places anyone else mentions, so I suppose at least we're even.

[And as much as he'd like to pretend otherwise, it really never stops being frustrating to him.]

Strange. I've never met so many people from... so many odd places as I have here.

Nor have I. It's...disorienting.

Indeed. I didn't know that some of these places existed...

[And he's a man who can memorize maps.]

Our maps never went beyond Jugdral, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but... [He shrugs. But you guys all dress like you're from a different planet! It'll never stop being weird to him.]
