Spoilers: Emmett isn’t straight? Really? No Way!
Warnings: Hot half naked guys? boy/boy relationships?
Notes: I pondered over a fandom for a long time. I mean soooooo long. I wasn’t even sure I was gonna be able to get this in in time. But yay me!!!! and yay Emmett, cuz you don’t get much better than Emmett when you feel like smiling:) I’m not really very happy with this short little ficlet, but I might expand on it in the future.
Special Thanks: Diet Pepsi for giving me the caffeine boost to write and to my Queer as Folk Season Five DVDs which I am watching as I write:)
Emmett was the only person who could wear green leather pants and a pink shirt out in public and look absolutely fabulous doing it. He stood at the bar in Babylon, sipping a Cosmopolitan and watching the half naked go-go boys gyrating on the dance floor.
“On nights like this,” Ted let out a sigh, following Emmett’s gaze across the club. “I try to think back to my first time in here. And I wonder.... was it always that hopeless?”
Emmett smiled, turning to look him for only a second, as not to miss any of the action. “Oh you’re not hopeless Teddy.” he said. “You’re just....”
“Old? Decrepit? Past my prime?” Ted paused, receiving no answer. “Em?”
“You wanted me to really answer that?”
“Thanks a lot” He leaned back, using the bar to support his weight. There was a time when it was all fresh and new. There was a time when guys would want him. But not now. He was hopeless, gut wrenchingly hopeless.
“Come on baby” Emmett placed his drink down on the bar. “All this feeling sorry for yourself... if gonna give you some very unflattering wrinkles. We’ve been coming here long enough to know that when the thumpa thumpa gets going, it’s a whole new world.” Emmett trailed off as a younger ripped brunette passed by them. “A whole.... new... beautiful.....”
“Focus Em” Ted snapped him back into the conversation.
“We’re not Brian, Teddy” Emmett smiled even at the thought. “We don’t need to be. Sure... it would be nice to have every....” Emmett’s eye caught another guy. “Beautiful....”
“Em...”
“Truth is, baby,” Emmett said. “The two of us just kinda get lost in the sea of gorgeous. It’s OK. I think of it as... playing hard to get.”
“Hard to get?”
“Why not? Just... in reverse.” The beat faded seamlessly into the next. “It worked when I was thinking it. Doesn’t matter. Come dance” Emmett was already shifting out to the dance floor.
“I think I’ll sit this one out, thanks” Ted urged him out there. “I’ll be here” He watched Emmett fall into the crowd, sticking out in his fabulous style. Playing Reverse hard to get, Ted thought. He could work with that.
