Politics of Contrast

Colin Kalmbacher here:

I smacked Brewster "Toll Road" McCracken upside the head a couple of times at a candidate forum hosted by Democracy for Texas on Wednesday night.

1. During a response, McCracken brought out a rehearsed speech wherein he kept repeating the word "fairness."

Hmm, I thought, "fairness?"

When it was my turn I decided to openly talk about fairness, since McCracken had brought it up and all, so I decided to rhetorically ask McCracken what was so fair about his:

YES vote on the Public Order ordinance-which makes it illegal for the homeless to stand or lay down outside of the homeless shelters that they seek refuge in.

2. At the end of the forum I used my closing remarks to thank the audience for their questions and then I decided to pose one of my own directly to Brewster.

"East Austin," I said "is always on every candidate's mind, it is a perennial issue, in fact, Brewster McCracken mentioned how much he respected the wants and concerns of East Austin earlier today."

I continued:

"If you [Brewster McCracken] seriously and honestly care about the wants, needs and desires of East Austin, why did you decide not to show up to a candidate forum IN East Austin sponsored by PODER, LULAC and the NAACP?"

He was at a loss.

On May 13 he's going to lose.

I ask for your vote.
