(PASADENA)-A Sylmar man pleaded innocent Thursday to a charge of murder for allegedly running over a fan as she waited outside a radio station to glimpse singer Justin Timberlake.
Cameron Albert Duty, 23, remained jailed in lieu of $1 million bail. He is due back in Pasadena Superior Court on Oct. 29, when a preliminary hearing date will be set.
Duty is charged in the Sept. 9 death of 21-year-old Anna White, who was among a large crowd of Timberlake fans gathered behind KIIS-FM's Burbank studios at Warner Boulevard and Avon Street.
Timberlake had already left the building after appearig on disc jockey JoJo's nighttime radio show to promote his upcoming solo album.
Witnesses told police that Duty appeared intoxicated before backing his 1999 white Ford pickup truck onto the sidewalk and into the group shortly after 10 p.m., according to Burbank police Lt. Tim Stehr.
White, who was dragged under the vehicle for about a block, was pronounced dead at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.
Officers, who noticed rear-end damage to the truck, stopped Duty blocks away at West Olive Avenue and North Lima Street, Stehr said.
Timberlake, a member of the boy band 'N Sync, announced on Tuesday that he will lend his name to a campaign against drunken driving. He will write and produce a 30-second public service radio spot encouraging his fans not to drink and drive.
"The senseless death of Anna White yet again demonstrates the horrors of drunk driving," he said in a statement.
"I can only hope that partnering with RADD (Recording Artists, Actors and Athletes Against Drunk Driving) will raise awareness, and convince others never to drive after they've had even a few drinks."
