Gay, Straight, or just an Asshole

Heyyy I made a gay friend and he and I like the same guy. We can't figure out if the guy is gay, straight, or just really isn't into either of us. He's real cute though.
My new friend went up to the boy we both like and asked him for a light. The boy said he didn't have one so reluctantly, my new friend pulled out the lighter he'd had all along, blowing his cover that he was just trying to talk to the boy. The boy then made no notice of this, or pretended it wasn't as obvious as it had been. So my friend thinks he is therefore straight. He said there's no way he's going to try to hit on him again because he "will NOT be that guy that hits on straight guys."
He then tells me it's my turn to hit on him and said, "If he can't get it up for you then SEND HIM MY WAY!"
