Don't question my authority + put me in a box

My boyfriend Claudio and I broke up about 4 weeks ago.  Not a lot has changed.  Of course there was the substantial change of me flying back to Pittsburgh to hide for two weeks and after that coming back and having dinner where he informed me he was dating someone new, but other than that--no change.  We still hangout as if nothing has changed only now there is little intimacy.  Our topics of discussion have not changed and I still go to his place while he makes food and curl my hair leaving the curling iron there as well as some extraneous pieces of clothing.  He still invites me to dinner parties and gatherings such as the one one tonight for his friend Puja's birthday where I was still referred to as Claudio's girlfriend.  In front of his friends I will forever be Claudio's american girlfriend.

This does not bother me.  Of course I am used to these weird in-between stages of relationships, but this is different. He is a real man of 28 and not some little boy so he is not falling into old habits so easy. All I know is when I answer the phone I still say "ciao caro" (hello my dear) and he does the same so what does that mean?

It's odd and yet it's comfortable.  He's my best friend here and I can't let that change without being friends with a total stranger. I guess we all have to learn to adapt. It's something I'm pretty good at but I like to stress over and be dramatic about nonetheless.  Change is always good because it makes you feel uncomfortable which makes you feel good once you've survived.  Here's to surviving!
