Inspired to write this post.
These are the thing I do on a daily basis (or semi-daily)
* Comfort a crying child
* Relieve pain
* Comfort and reassure parents
* Take charge
* Monitor oxygen levels
* Monitor concious levels
* Check for equal and reacting pupils
* Paperwork
* Ask about your allergy, bowel, immigration status
* Check if you have had a bowel movement (That's a Poo)
* Look at Poo.
* Document consistency, colour and frequency of poo.
* Collect wee/poo samples
* Paperwork
* Change stoma bags, dressings, sheets, clothes, nappies, cups of tea (not for us though ¬_¬)
* Give medications - Oral, IV, rectal, IM (intramuscular)
* Bag a child
* Suction a tracheostomy
* Change a tracheostomy
* Sing, read, dance, play with a child
* Paperwork
* Measure urine output
* Help cannulate
* Chase doctors for meds, fluids, discharge letters, change wrong prescriptions
* Chase Pharmacy for meds
* Monitor drips
* Feed a baby/child, Orally, naso-gastrically, via Gastrostemy or jejunostomy
* Prepare a child for theatre
* Take them to theatre
* Keep parents calm
* Answer bleeps
* Manage beds
* Keep bed space safe
* Paperwork
* Answer questions
* Ask questions
* Learn
* Teach
* Take temperature
* Try to keep temperature down
* Child Protection
* Work in a team
* Wipe a child's bum
* Wipe the floor
* Wipe the equipment
* Walk A LOT
And these are just the ones I can think of now. There are loads more. So if you ever ask me what I do. This. This is it. (And much much more).
