Thank you...

[mood|
amazed]

Technology never ceases to amaze me. Never.

Just think. How is it a little wire [barely thicker than your average piece of twine] transmit sound from your CD player to your headphones? And before even that, how did we manage to find a way to record sounds - images and videos, even, to a flat silver disc, and thus enabled the sharing of many good things.

And how does the flick of a switch make such a difference? Lights [Thank you, Thomas Edison, for the lightbulb], appliances - all powered by electricity [another wonder in itself], but impossible to work without a switch in between.
Amazing. So amazing that gone are the nights spent depending on candles, lamps as a source of light.
No more suffering at the hands of the merciless hot sun [if you're in Cali, maybe] because of the air-conditioning system, or wrapping up in endless layers, even indoors [in NYC in the winter] thanks to the radiator.
Bye bye to having to turn to the stone-age way of preparing food over fire if you don't want your food raw - unless, of course, you like sushi.

The computer or television screen. Wow. All those pretty colors... All the shades! How? How is it done? And, speaking of computers - the keys I'm tapping away at... How do the alphabets and numbers end up on the screen?

And telephones [Bless your soul, Bell] - I could be oceans away from you, but with the wonder of telephones, together with satellites, it is possible to hear you speak, live. Possible to keep up to date at the snap of my fingers. [Actually, at the dial of a few buttons, but whatever]
And of course, cell phones. So you can talk anywhere, anytime - unfortunately you can't use them beyond the grave, or else - "Call me, Kurt!" or "Oh, yeah, talk to you later, Sid!"

Thank God [or if you're atheist, the powers that be] for technology, and many, many thanks to the people who made it happen.

I am so grateful for us being ALIVE in this day and age, and for what we all have.
This is really OOC for me, I know, but I'm spankingly happy, having just discovered how to copy tracks onto my computer, so they can than be transferred to my cellphone. Whee!
