* went to Mesquite with Jack, Liz, and Dan. Beautiful going through the canyon. Drove across the corner of Arizona for nine miles then into Nevada.
* cheap breakfast at casino restaurant, then listened to Liz do her public speaking gig.
* back to Liz's house for a quick tuna sandwich lunch, change clothes, gather kidlets.
* just a few miles from Liz's house, our a/c died. We drove 40 minutes to Zion with no a/c, and it was only 32/91 degrees.
* arrive at Zion, begin hiking up a sandstone mountain, feel sick from the height, the heat, and the scary trail, retreat down the mountain with Charlotte.
* sit in the shade while Charlotte sleeps on my shoulder for half an hour.
* Park ranger offers me cold water
* drive to another spot in the park, leave the van and get on the tour bus to go through the canyon.
* get off at a river hike, walk around in the icy cold water to cool off
* back on bus, get off at the point where we can hike to Weeping Rock. Beautiful.
* leave Zion, stop and eat fresh-mex for supper, enjoy the cool evening air
* pick up frozen yogurt at Golden Spoon, then back home to parade everyone through the shower
* pass out in bed, eventually.
This morning - wash a load of clothes while Jack and Dan try to fix our a/c. Take fam to Tuacahn, pack up and hit the road. Praying with all my soul that the a/c works for the ride home, or at least until we get further north. To be traveling with kids, living out of the van and having no a/c for 2-3 days when it's 30+ could seriously make me lose my marbles.
