day 3, and it was a good one.

Another clinic day that ended early.  Two midwives were there, as well as Joanna and I.  I did two prenatals with Suzanne and then a bunch of little jobs around the office - grunt work, but I really didn't mind.  I'm happy to help out, and the office manager commented that the Canadian students are the hardest working students they've had.  So three trips carrying garbage, several introductory packages assembled, handouts photocopied, and lending library straightened made up the majority of my day.

Redeeming moment #1:  Finding fetal heart tones for a couple expecting their first baby.  First trimester heart tones aren't easy to find but I managed to find them today and these parents heard their baby bean's heart beat for the first time!  So rewarding to see their emotion and excitement!

Redeeming moment #2:  On my way back from the garbage I met up with a woman who had just put her 4 week old kitten down in the grass for a piddle.  This tiny creature mewed and stumbled around on the grass until I picked him up and gave him a cuddle.  When I put him down, he came and sat down between my feet :-)

Redeeming moment #3:  On another trip back from the garbage I saw a client leaving with her partner and newborn baby.  It was one of those moments that can't be described without sounding uber cheesy, but I'll give it a shot.  The parents walked out of the office and had to walk between two big trees dripping in heavy white blossoms, to get to the their car.  The sun was bright, the grass was so green and lush that they walked across, it was such a beautiful day.  The father was walking with such pride, carrying his tiny baby carefully to the car.  He covered the baby with a light blanket but the gentle breeze just lifted the blanket off the baby enough to give me a peek.  Delicious :-)

Redeeming moment #4:  Eating organic coconut oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with Joanna as we walked to the apartment.  She came in "for 15 minutes" and left several hours later.  We lounged on the couches, eventually made some sandwiches, talked about everything, and made plans for Saturday.

Redeeming moment #5:  Gathering enough funny money quarters to do laundry, finding the laundromat in this maze of a complex, walking home with one basket of clean, folded clothes.  One load and I'm done?  Hm, so this is what being single is like.  Less work for sure, but I miss folding Kim's clothes (that never get put away), Julia's jeans with holes in the knees, Charlotte's tiny t-shirts, and Jack's work socks.

Redeeming moment #6:  Finishing section ONE of my Business Class.  *head desk*   I should be done this class already but I just haven't put in the time.  With nothing to do for the next four days I should get a lot more done.  Progress is good.  Births would be better.

Redeeming moment #7:  Supper, which has cooked while I typed and now that it's ready I'm going to settle in to watch "Valley Girl".  Thank you D, for inspiring my choice of DVD viewing this week, and thank you Target for $4 DVD's ;-)
