This morning I was lazy. I had a shower (after Dustin killed a super creepy cockroach-like bug in my bathroom), had breakfast, pumped milk, yadda yadda yadda. I even went back to sleep for a while. After lunch, D&D said we could leave for Zion National Park! Yay :-) I called Liz, she hadn't heard from any of her clients that were due, so we headed out of town. It's about an hour's drive from here and I was enjoying the scenery as we drove out there.
Then, literally as we were at the gate to the park to show our pass to get in, my phone rang. Liz called to say that one of her clients could be in early labour and this mama lived 45 minutes the other side of St. George, and she tends to go fast when she has her babies. This is the same mama that we drove all the way out to the other night on a false alarm. This time, the mama took castor oil and so we figured it would start something.
I debated staying in the park for four hours to see all the highlights, or turning around to go back to St. George. I compromised and we stayed at the park for about an hour, drove a little way through the park, stopped a couple of times to take pictures, then turned around and came back. I went to Liz's house and she heated up some supper for me then we spent the rest of the evening waiting by the phone, chatting about all kinds of things.
At 10 o'clock we called the mama and she said her contractions had stopped....again. I'm disappointed to have missed all the cool sights in Zion but I'm sure we will get back here someday, and hopefully it will be with all the kids.
So there are still three or four mamas that could have their babies before I leave, but I really doubt I'll get more than one more. I'm tempted to change my plane ticket and stay an extra four or five days, but I miss Jack and the girls so much.
Tomorrow, Liz and I will go over some skills and paperwork, we have a postpartum visit in the late afternoon and then I will start packing. Tuesday is booked solid with prenatals and we might go to Les Miz at Tuacahn if no babies are on their way. Wednesday morning I get back on the shuttle to head to Vegas and begin my journey home. The time has gone so fast while I've been here, and yet it feels like I've been here for months. Liz is disappointed that I'm leaving but she understands.
Now to bed for me, in case there's a birth tonight (or two or three, oh please please please).
