so here's the deal

I applied to PLEA through Alberta.  There is a committee that meets to review the applications once a month and they make a decision whether to accept an applicant into the PLEA or not.  Well, on the day that some of my friends were doing the OSCE's in Calgary, a committee was meeting that day to review PLEA applications, and one of the committee members, Heather Cameron the Alberta Registrar, was supervising the OSCE's and wasn't in the room when my application was reviewed.  I talked to Heather today to ask her about the reasons my application was denied.

One of the reasons they gave me was that I had not completed a midwifery education program, although I had stated in the "extra information" part of the application that I should be graduating in August of this year.  I don't know if they saw that or not but when Heather asked me about it, I told her where I had written that and she looked it up and found it.  She will pass that information on to the chairperson of the PLEA committee and see what she has to say but it's sort of pointless.

The deadline to register for the September CMRE was July 14th.  I thought it was later than that, but nope.  I only got my letter from PLEA a couple of days before the 14th so even if I had been accepted, I would have had to register for the exam immediately.

So, even if they agree that my application is "acceptable", I'm too late to register for the exam.  I also told Heather that writing the CMRE is a graduation requirement and they won't let me just write it without being accepted into PLEA.  Basically, I'm S.O.L.

I will apply for the Bridging Program and/or PLEA through Manitoba I guess.  This still leaves me in a position where I'm not quite graduated (for another year), and I still won't have any clinical opportunities when I go home until at least March of next year, unless I can arrange something in Calgary and we move there asap.

Why can't this be easier?  I could use a little Easy button right about now.
