I need D's 'asskicking' icon

I called the Mayor this morning, she is on holidays.  I called the Deputy Mayor and talked to him about what happened at the cemetery over the weekend.  I was respectful, as calm as I could be, and I think I did really well letting them know how I felt about all of it, and what I expected from them to make amends.  I told him that I wanted the ( Read more... )

I can't believe that guy LAUGHED!! I don't care what the circumstances were...there is absolutely nothing appropriate about laughing during a conversation about memorial sites being disturbed. Good for you for staying in control. Some people can be so bloody insensitive.

I know, that's what I said to him, "You're laughing at me!?" He was sort of scoffing at the irony of ME demanding an apology when "we" (the family members) have been so rude and verbally abusive to the town employees about this whole thing. Still, he should understand the emotions involved with this, and I was so close to losing it.

This is where *I* probably would have gotten obnoxious and said something like...."do you have a daughter? You do? I see. Well let me put it this way. Suppose your daughter DIED, and as a way of HONORING HER you planted beautiful flowers and set up solar lights to banish the darkness from her physical resting place...and then some JACKASS pulled out the flowers and trashed the solar lights. And if all that isn't bad enough, ANOTHER JACKASS LAUGHS AT YOU when you request an apology??!! How would YOU FEEL?!!"
I suppose that kind of attitude isn't all that Christian though...good for ou for taking the high road.

It sounds as if you're hitting the high and low points of living in a small town all at once. Good: You can reach the mayor/deputy mayor/town council members by phone. Bad: They aren't necessarily the brightest souls God put on this earth, are they? I'm so sorry for all this.

Yeah, it's good that we people in high places are so accessible (sometimes a little too accessible) but they could sure use a lesson in public relations and sensitivity. As someone pointed out yesterday, if that had been an ancient Indian burial ground, there would be hell to pay around here.

Good for you for speaking up! Even better that you kept your cool. I can't imagine how hard that must have been. You're totally right, though - verbally assaulting people (especially the people not directly at fault) just damages your cause. The world would be a much better place if there were more people like you and less people like Hothead.
