Week one is almost done. My supervising midwives are very nice and I've enjoyed visiting clients and doing clinic with them. In this first week I've seen 20 clients (one of them, twice), 15 at the clinic and the rest at home. Every day I come home with a list of things to look up and review, and little things to do like add client addresses to my GPS, repack my birth bag, review some informed choice discussions, and document my clinic visits. Never enough hours in the day.
I brought home supplies today from the clinic and added them to some of my own equipment to pack my little postpartum bag (tiny bandaids, alcohol swabs, heel lancets, an infant stethoscope, cord clamp cutter, baby scale and sling, suture removal pack, and newborn screening cards). Eventually I'll be doing postpartum home visits on my own and it was kind of exciting to pack my own bag. The practice also bought new bp cuffs for us to use during our clerkship so I can pack
mine away for now.
Still no births but I'm pretty sure there will be one tonight or sometime tomorrow. Jack and the girls are coming in early tomorrow morning and I hope I can spend some time with them whether there's a birth or not.
After work tonight I took care of some domestics; bought groceries, put clean sheets on my bed, did laundry and dishes, made some supper (roast chicken and salad) and tried unsuccessfully to wrap Christmas gifts for the Littles. Odd-shaped packaging = the need to use gift bags instead. I may have a soak in the tub and then to bed. As eager as I am to go to a birth, I could use at least a few hours of sleep first ;-)
