I have just finished the second book in the Gemma Doyle series. It was another amazing book by Libba Bray. I can't believe all that happened in this book. I literally cried for the characters and again wished to slap them at times. Things were so much more intense in this book. I would stay up way to late reading it and then wake up the next day and begin again.
I think one of the main things that made this book interesting is that Gemma and her friends are on holiday in London. You get to see a lot of London and society during Christmas time. Gemma makes her first real love connection in this book. The man is named Simon Middleton and he is a very rich young man. He is sweet to Gemma and they both care for each other. You also get the joy of seeing the girls lying. They say that Ann is the long lost heir to a fortune. All the well to do people want to meet her and get to know her. She stays with Felicity and together the two deceive many people. I liked this because it showed how the adults in the story are when they believe they are in the presence of a wealthy person. They all fell over themselves to meet Ann when in reality Ann could be working for them one day.
In this book you find out more about each of the characters. You feel for Ann who is realizing more and more that she will always be a lower class than her friends. This reality is thrown harshly at her by her cousin. You also realize that Gemma is going through a lot. She is trying to please everyone and at the same time be herself. She tries to deal with her fathers addiction and keep it private, even from her friends. She is also wondering what to do with Kartik (a boy who is protecting her) and Simon. She also realizes that the world is not all good and that evil is everywhere. Finally you find out a huge secret about Felicity. One that will make you no longer hate her as much and will also help you to understand why she acts the way she does. And as for Pippa you begin to feel sorry for her. You also hope for her happiness even though it can never come.
I can't believe how amazing this series is so far. I also can't believe that I have never read it before. I do not own the third book and am waiting for the local book store to tell me they have it. I have no idea what I am going to do for now. I want to read the final book right now and am itching for the book. I would ask Steph but she only owns the first two as well. I am hoping to obtain the book tomorrow and just read for as long as possible.
In other news I will be dying my hair a really crazy red today. I first have to bleach it and then dye it. I plan on making a blog post to show the outcome and the process. I hope it all goes well. I usually don't go crazy with my hair color and am nervous about how it will look.
