Ok, well Jamaican accents are probably strictly Jamaican, but I'd like to think all Carribean people speak like that. It was a good trip, lots of fun times, laughs and well, um, interesting memories. When we first got to San Juan, we went to go check into the hotel, and they didn't have my reservation or my parents. Yeah, what kind of hotel just drops 2 reservations? Lame, but we eventually got a place to stay. Mike and I ended up at the original hotel where my parents had to go 3 blocks away to a Holiday Inn Express. It wasn't bad, and it gave Mike and I some time alone together. They have really good food in Puerto Rico...the bananas are in everything, but they're pretty tasty. I think fried plantains are kind of an acquired taste, but they're not bad.
In San Juan we went and looked around Old Town, which I thought was pretty quaint. They had really cute old brick streets and little buildings with a ton of personality...the bright paint jobs add to the personality. We also got to see some of the old fort that was there, and tried not to go to La Perla, lol (according to Mike's friend Simon that's the Compton of San Juan). We definitely had fun in San Juan. Their tourist center had free rum tasting....which we came to find out was on practically every island. Im sure you could get wasted just from tasting all the rums. The Carribean people love their rum.
The cruise itself was pretty fun. It sucked that they didn't have a 24 hour buffet with tasty pastries, but they did have a Johnny Rockets, which Mike and I made friends with the waitress, and she was cool to us. I danced with her to Stayin Alive. I guess they have some routine where all the servers dance, and she wanted me to dance too. Mike wished he had his camera for that, lol. We went in the hot tub a few times, but not for too long cuz Mike can't take heat for too long before he gets hot. We hit up the casino a few times, and we even doubled Mike up at Craps, but then it was slowly lost...all of it, lol. We won at Bingo the first time they had it, and we got $112. Pretty good Bingo prize. We tried again the last day for the jackpot of $5,000 but some lady from Arkansas won. We were only 3 spots away! We shared a card, but it was fun, cuz Mike would take one side, and I'd take the other. It was a joint effort.
As for excursions, those were fun too. Since its the Carribean, there were a lot of forts and stuff from the 1700s for protecting the islands from Pirates and stuff. Arrrr matey! Blackbeards Castle was on one island, and the original ship from teh Pirates of the Carribean movie was on another island. Oh yeah, then the Jolly Roger was supposedly a pirate ship, but that one looked kinda lame. Although on that one you could walk the plank and swing off the boat on a rope into the water. The first two islands, St. Thomas and St. Maarten, we just rented a van and drove around. One of the vans was a Space Wagon, which my brother thought was way cool. We found a really nice beach on St. Maarten that we went swimming at. No fish in the water! And it was amusing to watch Mike wrestle my brother in the ocean. lol.
After that we were on Antigua and we did a boat/snorkel thing. There was a huge fish hanging out at the back of the boat called a Dar Fish, and they fed the thing big chunks of CHICKEN! And the fish sucked the chicken down like it was nothing. You should beware of meat eating fish, lol. That was fun just being out on the water. Oh yeah, and one of the people working on the boat didn't understand why I was afraid of fish....whatever.
We did a bike ride thing on St. Lucia...I almost overheated. That was fun...A shower definitely felt good at the end of that trip.
Our last stop was Barbados where we did a 4x4 snorkel thing. They got to see a couple shipwrecks and then we went and drove around the island. We saw some monkeys in the jungle and a random zebra and zebra/donkey. Yeah, totally random.
Our last day was just at sea. It was kinda nice to just chill around the boat a little bit. It was way too hot to sunbathe though. Mike and I explored the ship a little bit and basically just hung out. It was nice cuz every morning we'd sit on the balcony together while we woke up, and Mike would drink his coffee. Then we'd go and have breakfast together. The whole time we were doing all this, my brother was sleeping, so we couldn't really be in the room and talk. It was nice though because we got to spend the mornings alone.
Once the cruise was over, and we had to get off the ship, we almost missed our plane because it took so long to get through customs. Our plane ended up being delayed though, so we made it.
Anyway, that was the vacation in a nutshell. This week I've just been trying to get over the jetlag (Mike and I were waking up between 8 and 9am everyday) and get everything settled again. My kitties missed me and have been wanting attention every night, all night, since I got back. I watched my crab show last night, and they said next week is the season finale. That kinda makes me sad, cuz it's such a good show. Now I won't really have anything to look forward to on tv. Ah well. Yet another countdown starts....40-something days...Maybe I can see him before then once he finds a house he wants to buy. He wants me to come see it before we move in, so we'll see. It would be nice to see him again before July....

"That's a good little captain...look at you, you got us to Barbados!" - Mike's joke about the "Do Not Tap On Glass" sign by the bridge window...Captain Zoo anyone?
