Hey there!! Hope everyone's vacation was awesome!!! Mine sure was, I went to New York!!! WOOTWOOT! I had a mission trip for Confermation, I thought it was going to be really dumb and boring. So off! I had a great time! Where's a little of what went on this past week.
Monday- 6 hr drive to NY, went straight to Hospitality House ( its where homeless people can stay, Only Mothers and Children can stay there no Men. It's for families who don't have a home, and some families are hiding out) We gardened put in plants and things, then that night went into Manhatten, say the Statue of Liberty, went to Pier 21. Then went to the church. Now it was night time and we coudn't really see anything but all us girls were getting freaked out about where we were staying we couldn't find the church and when we did, we were like OMG its is freaken scary looking! But the next day we saw it in light and it was fine.
Tuesday-We split into two groups that day. Boys went back to the Hospitality House and the girls went to the Soup Kitchen. When we got to the soup kitchen we went straight to work, Melany and Lauren bagged food while Lucy,Janine and myself cut up the vegatables for the salad. Once we were done that we served all the homeless people who came into eat. Now i know you think homeless as Oh crazy people who are Drunks and know what they are doing all the time. No true, There are few that are like that, but many have problems and were sent out into the streets, some Alcoholics, Drug attic's, some got evicted from there homes, lost jobs, there are so many reasons why people are homeless. And when i was serving the food, they were so grateful, to see how there face's lit up to see the food. It was amazing. After the serving was finished we just helped bag food for people. Then around 5 two people came to talk to us about being homeless and thier story with it. Nina and Paul told us there stories, I was heart broken, I'll tell you mostly about Nina. Her parents were Haronin attics and @ the age of 6 she was sent out to sell herself so her parents could get money for drugs. She ran away @ 8, drank did drugs, smoked. at 8! Lived with her uncle was melested for 5 yrs before she ran away again, then got into deep trouble did horrible things went to jail, Got AIDS from her uncle. Then finally @ around age 20 maybe, she found this place. and it helped her out, and now she's been clean, has two children, and is doing alot better, she's i think probably in her 30's near 40's now. But that's just a little of her story, I couldn't believe that.
Weds- The groups were split. I went to send out new's letters to all different people, like put the papers into the envolope, about 4,000! Yea! alot! didn't finish it tho. then the other group went to the Food Pantry helped out there. That night was hilarious! Us girls did the guys hair. OMG! The funniest thing ever! lmao...Then we goofed off somemore. so funny.
Thursday-the guys went to the soup kitchen and us girls went to the ZOO with the little kids from Hospitality house! OMG it was so much fun! I loved it. The kids were so awesome, and so nice and cool. We made masks and saw all the animals, i loved it. Then that night when us girls got back from our showers all the guys were in the kitchen saying we couldn't come in, so we waited. We watched in and the lights we out all we saw was candles on the tables and all fancied up, It was so nice, they made us Spagetti and Meatballs, and it was so nice. it was similar to being in a restaurant, being served and all. haha, Then we got sugar high and went nuts. The ktichen was so gross in the church so the girls and I cleaned it, we sweeped, mopped, and dusted the kitchen. The cook ( alex ) who cooked the meal fixed two burners that didn't work because they were so dirty! Gross! lol. and it looked ALOT better once that was done.
Friday- The shopping day! Went into NYC! Oh ya! Went on the Ferry, then looked around, got sunglasses for 3$! nice! lol. Then walked to ST. Pauls Church, and we saw 9-11. I was in awe! I was really close to tears. After that we ate lunch and then went to Canal st. We had to take the subway, that was funny, trying to get the tickets. lol. Now Most of canal st is i'm guessing black market and look a likes. I got a ring and necklace Sterling silver. A I <3 NY shirt for 2$. A sweatshirt for 18 and a Coach i don't know if its real or look a like for 20. Nice! All the people who are trying to sell you stuff surround you, You walk into the store and they spot you holding an item and there pracically gift wrapping it for you while your still looking at other stuff! I was like Holy crap! ha. Then we went into Time Square! SOOOO Amazing!!! Can't even explain it. So many buildings and places, We went into Toys R Us. So much fun went on the farres wheel in there. hehe Scooby doo! Went to the MTV Store, Really nice, Expensive stuff so i could only get lip gloss cuz i was broke! lol. Then we ate @ Planet Hollywood. So nice!!!! I loved it, Great food, So interesting to look at! I loved it! Then went back to the church didn't go to bed til 1, woke up @ 6:30 left @ 7:30 and went on our way home. It was a great trip and i loved it, I learnt alot from it. From the children to the homeless, to having more fun and being myself. It was a great vacation.
