Okay, I feel that I have held my tongue long enough. Your recent entries and voiced opinions have prompted my need to retaliate, if you will. I do not intend to hurt anyone or completely dismiss your personal political opinions; this is just how I feel. However, before I continue, I would like to apologize for the lack of eloquence and unperfected grammatical devices contained in this entry. After all, not all of us are fortunate enough to be collegiate award winning essayists.
Firstly, I would like to say that if you did NOT vote, then you have absolutely no right to complain about the outcome of yesterday's election; HOW DARE YOU? If you didn't care to vote for either of the "Neanderthals running for president," but you cared immensly about the "infuriating" amendment to ban gay marriage, then you should have voted for that sole purpose. Don't like Kerry? Don't agree with Bush? Then vote for Nader for all I care, heck, vote 'fill-in' for Bob or Mickey Mouse. The point is if you feel so strongly about something, then it is your responsibility to make an attempt to educate others and do something to change a possible negative result.
I hole-heartedly agree with the notion that this is in fact America, a nation founded upon the roots of 'freedom.' AND I do believe that in most cases, every single person whether they be heterosexual, homosexual, black, white, green, or purple deserves to be equal. I must admit that I am in fact undecided about the gay marriage ban; I can see where both sides are coming from. I am not the person that can give you an educated opinion about why the ban is needed; a person like Katie, would be a much better candidate for such a task. She in fact has statistical evidence on the high frequency of domestic abuse and the negative effects on children seen in homosexual relationships. She even has dare I say....BIBLICAL support (I'm sorry, I just had to do it).
Abortion is yet another one of those "touchy" subjects. The creation of a child by two consenting individuals is a gift from God or whatever higher power you believe in, and that should not be destroyed. That's all I have to say about that issue.
If you're concerned about democracy taking a backseat to religion in this country, then do something about it! Instead of only voicing your opinions about an issue on your livejournal, write a letter to your state senators and congressional members. Make yourself heard. Just because I did vote for George W. Bush doesn't mean that I believe that religion should greatly influence politics. I did agree with some of Kerry's proposals, but I just couldn't see them being fulfilled. You cannot change the way the nation voted by discriminating. Yes, religion does influence the opinion of many voters but, like we all agree, this is a country in which we are free to vote based on our morals and opinions. If you don't agree with the way this country is run, do something to change it!!! Vote, form a coalition, write letters, make calls, or even get out of the country.
Call me what you will whether it be redundant, indecisive, or ignorant for I'm just another SUV driving, 'Good ol' boy voting' American citizen.
