PRESS RELEASE

Love’s WRATH Rages at Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week 2010:
Asphyxia Presents an Explosion of Design Salvaged from Years Lost

The rage of love lost is released with a dark vengeance in WRATH, a collection of gowns painstakingly composed by Asphyxia from salvaged pieces imbued with meaning and strength, and converted to empower.

Referencing Victorian mourning customs, which used the clothing of deceased loved-ones as the basis for mourning quilts to cultivate perpetual closeness, Asphyxia designer Alexandra De Francesco honours years and loves lost in narrative art, breathing new life into a variety of organic and salvaged materials such as disintegrating Victorian lace and beadwork, ancient silks, recycled fur and leathers alongside hand-spun water soluble threads, hand-dyed and silkscreened fabrics.

Look for incredible tone on tone textures, distressed fabrics, intricate and delicate beadwork and tiny remembrances worn close to the heart, all brought together with new meaning in pieces that strengthen and empower.

These gowns fortify with love’s fierce armour, and when Wrath is released, you can count on a veritable explosion of sound and drama to set them off!

About Asphyxia & Background on this collection, WRATH:

Asphyxia (http://www.asphyxiadesigns.com) is Alexandra De Francesco, a fashion designer and textile artist who obtained a Bachelor of Design Degree at OCAD, and has gone on to create two sides of her work: whimsical printed works for everyday wear, and spectacular wearable art couture. Asphyxia exhibited at FAT 2009 in the trio collection SALVATION, with Magdelina Designs and Empire Jewellery, and at FAT 2008 in the duo collection RESURRECTION with Magdelina Designs, and has gone solo for FAT 2010.

This collection, WRATH, stems from the rage which emerged after Alexandra lost her mother to cancer, and represents her forceful revenge. The loss of a loved one can eat you up gradually from the inside, filling you with a sense of desperation and even a need for revenge that can only be satiated with outward expression, Wrath. Through these works, anger finds its outlet, pain is released, and peace remains. WRATH is dedicated to Mary Anne De Francesco. May she rest in peace.
