I swear, there is something about baby animals that can make anybody's heart melt. Before you know it, you hear yourself saying "aaawwww" in the most sickingly sweet voice possible. I think my voice becomes two octaves higher as well.
These pictures of a baby polar bear, named Knut, are especially cute. So cute, I thought it wasn't real at first. Apparently, Knut was abandoned by his mother, and in order to ensure Knut's survival in his first couple of weeks, a zookeeper in Berlin, Germany stayed by the baby bear's side 24-7 and bottle fed the baby bear.
Here is some short info and some more pics:
WARNING: HEART-WRENCHING PART OF THE STORY
Some authorities have wanted to put the baby bear down before he becomes to attached to humans. This has caused quite a bit of outrage from various parts of the community and a big debate over what actions to take has ensued. Meanwhile, Knut has been developing at a healthy, normal rate. I understand the unfairness of Knut developing attachments to humans and then being released into the wild. But, I dont' understand why he can't live in a zoo or a wildlife refuge of sorts.
If you are as obsessed with animals like I am, then here is a link to a flickr group that has tons of photos of Knut.
