I'd like to thank the Academy

I meant to mention on here yesterday or earlier, but there was the Dayton library's poetry contest. I was called a few days ago to be told that I was a finalist, and that they hoped I could attend the poetry reading/reveal.

Of the few hundred entries they got, with "Daydream Teatime With Mythical Figures,"I placed third. Aw, shucks...

While I was in Chattanooga, I received the program that was written for the 100-year (centennial) anniversary for the Loretto church. It included my essay "Loretto Memories." Small-town stuff, but kinda cool.

Since we cut down on the cable and lost the DVR, we've pretty much stopped watching TV. We'll catch up on some of it later, I guess, but it's surprising how easy it was to just stop watching.

A couple of weeks ago, one of my current students was at a yard sale and came across a box full of ties. There was one Jerry Garcia tie and several nice ones. When she asked, the person said she was packing up to send it to Goodwill, and anything said student wanted, she could have for free. She grabbed the ties and gave them to me. I've picked several and donated the extras to a local school that requires students wear ties every day.

In comparison, the Ralph Marlin booth this year at the mall is less than exciting. I've gotten most of the good ones they offer, apparently.

More entries soon, I hope. The worst of the grading is over for now. It's the final week of classes, after which comes the first week of the next term. I'm busy with work stuff, we're still kinda sick (Amy's currently sicker than I am), and we're all tired.

Amy cashed in her Pampers Rewards points for the entirety of Zoey's diaper days for four movie ticket passes. We used two of them last night and paid for Zoey, and we saw Madagascar 2. It was cute, and Zoey was only bored occasionally.
